E55 Custom Intakes- What you got???
I have seen a number of people doing custom intakes. Loco did from TB to stock airbox, and picked up some power. Others are going all the way to cone filters.
I have some questions:
- What did you pay to have your unit fabricated?
- Anyone do before after dyno runs?
- What material was used?
Post pictures if you have any. I am working with my guy, and want to do some legit testing (if not already done) to see what gains are available.

A buddy and I built this set up ourselves.. Costed about $200 or so with the filters. I dont have any before or after dynos unfortunately.. I dyno'd 436 and 470 (dynojet) with this set up though, stock with the exception of magnaflow mufflers. SC whine is increased heavily with these set ups, so you know its getting more air.. Im not back to the stock set up.. Also not shown in the picture, but I did wrap them in heat wrap to try and keep the pipes cooler.. I think im going to make a dedicated track set up with this intake now, and move the filters to where the grill is (wouldnt run a grill at the track. I would then test the stock set up vs this dedicated track set up.

All,
With custom setups like this, is the underhood noise greatly increased? I did this on my Dodge Durango years ago and was stunned on how much louder it made it in the cabin, which was not my original intent.
Thanks.

Under hood noise? While if you consider the sc whine, then yes it is greatly increased.. I didnt think it was annoying of anything, I actually liked that the sc was more pronounced.

Who's car is this by the way, anyone on here? I would consider this whine very nice, Mercedes Kompressors always sound better than other supercharged cars.

Can you post up a video of the increased SC whine? Is it an annoying loud whine or a deeper/louder whine. Annoying being the MTM RS4 whine and deeper being the SLR whine.

Some think so, others believe the increased amount of air makes up for it.. If i were to live in a really warm climate I wouldnt go with this style set up..But in a cooler climate it would work better.

I had a custom aluminum set up for a while. 3" y pipe transition into 3.5" pipes and ended with the cone filter at the radiator support. I gained 37whp with this intake and 82mm tb.
The pipes get hot in the engine bay, but so do the stock intake boxes. To me, our engine is a SC engine. It ingest air, compress air thru the SC hence heat the air up, then cool the compress air down with the ic. So it really doesn't matter if the inlet air is cool or hot. The ic, he, cooling system make all the different.

Here you go

The second graph show the gain from the intake and 82mm tb.

Can somebody please guide me to where I can buy a nice 3" y-pipe to connect from the throttle body? (essentially a silicone adaptor is what I'm after)
