My New Air Intake and Review of It.
I just installed this new air intake that I got from Hadilaw. I do not yet have an after dyno, but I am pretty confident I gained rwhp in the higher rpms, per my butt feel. The kit is well packaged. Depending on the tolerances of your vehicle, you might or might not need all the brackets and more or less tubing. Here is what I mean.
1. The elbow tubing, that connects to the k&n filters, had to be shortened for my car so the filter could fit behind the grill. Again, this will depend on the tolerances of your car for any adjustements to the elbow tubing. After shortening it, it was a perfect fit.
2. I had a very tight fight, so I did not need to use the 2 aluminum brackets that connects each side of the aluminum tubing to the engine (where the two black rubber mounts used to go to hold the stock OEM airbox).
3. If you order the kit, ask them to provide extra TB tubing..maybe an extra 1 or 1.5 inches then what is normally provided. The TB tubing with my kit was exact on.....but I would rather have some extra length or tubing, just to be safe.
4. The instructions asked me to move or bend those 2 vertical coolers that you see in front of the radiator. I was nervous to do that, so I did not....luckily I did not need to, as the airfilter fit fine without me having to do so.
5. You will have to cut the left side of the passenger and right side of the driver side (when facing the car) airflow holes on each side of the radiator. It was no big deal and you need to do it so the bigger opening of the elbows for the airfilters will fit.
6. When installing the hose that connects the aluminum tubing, it is so much easier if you spray/use something that makes it slippery so that its easier to adjust the hose and tubing when connecting the them together.
7. The kits provides a pair of metal looking radiator support, I could not figure out how they work and determined that I did not need them after I reinstalled the radiator support/top.
8. There is no connection for the PVC. It was no big deal to me, since I had a oil catcher kit and was able to re-route the lines to account for no PVC connection to the new intake tubes.
9. ALSO, DO NOT, DO NOT CLOSE THE HOOD DURING THE INSTALL OR NOT CLOSE THE HOLD UNTIL YOU COMPLETE THE INSTALL. If you do, then due to the hood line being loose, you will not be able to open the passenger side hood latch with the hood latch under the steering wheel. You will be able to open the driver side hood latch, but not the passenger. If this happens, then use a pair of needle nose pliers to grap the hood line through the grill and pull on it to open the the passenger side hood latch.
10. I think I also discovered something interesting, maybe a side benefit to the aluminum pipes of this kit and others like it. I got this laser temp reader and I have been shooting everything for the fun of it to get a temp reading. On my original setup with Renntech air box and python tubes, the outside temp measurement of the box and tubes would be approx. 50 degrees above ambient (measuring immediatelly after driving home from the office and after I turn off the engine - can someone with python tubes see if they get the same result). With these aluminum intake tubes, the average temp of the tubes/piping would be 30 degrees above ambient (again, measuring right after I drive home from the office and immediately after I turn off the engine). Maybe its b/c Hadi's set up doesn't take up as much space as the OEM or Renntech air box? Maybe more fresh or outside air is allowed to circulate in the engine bay?
11. Also, since these intake pipes are above the headers, I was very surprised by how much cooler it was to the temp of the Renntech airbox. I might wrap the intakes with DEI Reflect a Gold and see if it helps reflect radiant heat from the engine bay.
12. All in all, it took me actual install time of around 3 hours. It is a great kit and well worth it!!!!

LOL....For Christmas, the family got me a lot of golf stuff and DEI Reflect a Gold. The family knew I was curious about that reflect a gold. My neighbor is involved with some Subaru racing team(?) or something like it. I saw a lot of DEI reflect a gold in all of their subaru engine bays and his mechanic and racing members swear by it. So when I got it for Christmas, my neighbor suggested that I wrap the surge tanks and the valve covers with it. I do not know if it works, but I do know that the outside temp of the surge tank and valve covers are now a lot cooler with the reflect a gold then without them.

Very Nice... seems the cones are already showing signs of crushing ? They good/big enough for the volume of air this thing sucks?

There is a bracket with nuts and bolts that connects the tube to the holes/areas where those black rubber things go (that the OEM/Renntech airbox connects too). You can see from my pic that I left those black rubber things in there and did not use the bracket b/c the it was not needed, given how tight/snug fit everything was.

Wow this looks good! Let us know what the numbers are on the dyno! Congrats. I some of the gold wrap on my Subaru STi's Heat shield.

I didn't read anything about any type of water bypass type section like I've seen on other front mount intakes nor could I see one in the pics. What are you going to do in case you get caught in some freak thunderstorm and it's raining cats and dogs?

Nothing. I keep hearing about this urban legend of issues with driving in the rain but I have never encountered it or personally know about it from others.

But after u drive it fast in the rain and check are the filters not wet?? Last time I open my engine bay after driving in the wet all the area where your filters are was wet! Not alot of water but water had gone there so if your going for a long drive in the rain they will get very wet ?
