RIP My E55
, I wish you will get the ride or alternative one soon. Cost of rebuilding is 10K USD !!!??? Overhere, the range of building this engine between 2200 - 3300 USD. Best of luck

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
As a renown world class builder told me, when the #8 goes, its from running the car hard time over time/cumulative effect without proper fuel to it.
Just be glad this didnt happen after you purchased the Weistec supercharger. None of us on here dont think you can find a car as fast as yours for $10k (cost of rebuilding this engine).
But to all who state he is heavily moded...
No offence ,but he is not. Only thing different in his mod list then the norm is the tcu tune. Rest is standard, his car is like a stage 2+ at most.
You know how long people have been running this setup with countless runs track day events and races ?
My advice dump the 180 pulley and go smaller, for all the people out there that want safer power. TB and headers are your best route. You get the power with no draw backs.

Please read thread in its entirety before replying
For all we know is you just cracked the head gasket near the number 8 piston and its leaking antifreeze in there.
Take it to the shop and have them look at it.
Few things it could be.
blown gasket
busted ringland on that piston(hopefully the block is ok)
bent valves
You might not need a new engine and it could just be a bad piston and the block is fine.
For white smoke it means the car was burning antifreeze also.
There was a guy that changed his pistons with the car on jack stands on here.Like I said if the block is ok you could technically fix this in your driveway with a new piston and some valves along with a new headgasket.
did the car over heat? hopefully the head is straight and didnt warp.
I would not give up and sell the car bro.You will get threw this and we will help along the way

Regardless of what you decide, hang in there.
Compression test will take approximately 20 minutes for cyl 8. If its zip or anything near, you know you'll have a bigger issue. Then you can do a leak down to see if you are getting leakage into the crankcase, the coolant, the valves, etc.
Diagnose the problem before you get all bent outta shape.
just seems from your posts that you are set on selling the thing
When I blew my SC M112 in my C32 (carbon build up came off...lodged open an exhaust valve...piston slammed the valve...) Totally freakish. I was going about 35 when it happened. I actually sucked it up and paid a certified AMG mechanic to rebuild it. Yep. $8K on a car that was MAYBE worth $20K at the time. New piston...exhaust valbe...heads...a few other things...but a certified AMG rebuild with AMG specs...
The car came back stronger than it had ever been. Seriously. It felt SO good.
Don't give up yet. I bet if you hunt a little you WILL find someone in the bay area...seriously...I work for Salesforce.com and I know at least two dozen other dudes out there that have AMG's that (they have way more options than I ever got) won't lift a wrench... So I know there has to be some folks.

From time to time all automobile manufactures really get it right. In MB's case I think some good examples are the W108/9 W123 and the W211
So, before you go for a fire sale, give some serious thought as to what you are giving up and how you plan to replace it.
One final thought, in a previous post I stated that I thought the E55's would head to the "grave yards of the rusted automobiles" far sooner than other W211's as they would be acquired by individuals who were not in a financial position to maintain a $100 car. This was the rapid fate of the W109 6.3. It would seem history is about to repeat itself. Those E55's which survive in pristine condition will always be desirable and in support of my prediction, I would point out the various cars of the 50' and 60's and 70's that went unwanted for so many years.
