RIP My E55

If you think the 55 has issues well it cost money to keep a cl600 or 65 going. I work on several "6" in my area and if its not one thing its another on those beasts. You better put away at least $1K to $2K a year on maintenance. From the shifter lock issues to the darn coil packs or the little vaccum lines busting or the crank postion sensor. Good luck with your next puchase.

WOW! I can't believe I'm reading this.... Daddy won't pay your way on this one? ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Any thoughts about acting like a grown up and paying your own expenses? You still live at home, right?.... most likely rent-free. Food's probably free too. Does dad still pay the car insurance premiums?![action](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/action1.gif)
You could try taking out a loan to pay for this repair... Not as good as "free money from dad" but at some point in life you'll need to take some personal responsibility for your own decisions /mistakes / expenses. Spread those payments out over 3 or 4 years and it should be easy to manage...even with a crappy-paying job.
You do have a job, right?![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)

Sorry to hear that its official. have you given any thought to parting out the mods currently on the car and selling the roller? it will net you the best return on the car as you really never get your $$ back on mods unless you're selling the individual parts. IE i recently sold a modded ls1 trans am i couldn't get more than 7k for the car as is but I sold the short block, heads, catback, intake, cam, headers, TB, wheels separately from the roller and came way from it with ~12k.

A used C216 65 will cost you 80-90K right now. 20K down and financing the rest over 5 years at 4% will net you payments of $1200+ a month. You're better off just fixing and driving the E55.

I will do my best to not be offensive, please consider what I say as friendly advice. Up until the "daddy" line I think many were very sympathetic to your loss. Now understanding your situation I think you have some major things to consider. Living at home and having the support of your parents is huge and considering you are on the younger end of amg ownership I see that as a very nice priviledge. I don't know your work ethic or plans after community college, but you should be thinking of what will cost you and your father less at this point. Fixing the car out of your own pocket should be an option before considering a CL65, even if it is with a loan. Without a real job to support yourself saving for a 65 down payment does not allow you to still have enough to make payments and maintain the car. It is good to have goals and live life, but sometimes being more responsible in your 20's really allows you to enjoy your 30's. What I spent on my house, and wedding I could have payed for my CL65 when it was new. Then I finally got the 65...before kids of course, I was thinking of a future family and back seats made the car a keeper. So good luck with what you do, hopefully you can find an affordable way to fix the car and not take a hit on selling it as is.

More like 3-4k per year in maintenance, to be a card carrying member of the V12TT club.
I wish my dad paid for my cars when I was your age. I didn't have anything that I couldn't call junk until I made 60-70k per year, and even then, it wasn't as nice as a modern AMG. Hell, I still don't own an AMG.

Pay him no attention brotha, he is just tightly wound. If my father paid for my ride I would sport it proudly.

No sense in beating the guy while he is down. Pretty sure he comes to mbworld to share his love for the E55 and not seek out parenting experts for critiques. Raise your kids and let his parents raise him.

I think it's a HUGE mistake however to get any kind of 65 vehicle in the near future though...they are just to expensive to maintain and if something like this were to happen to a 65 then you are REALLY in big trouble.

There was so much speculation, and so many accusations... The bottom line is: The mods present taxed the stock fuel system. The only reason there is a fuel rail kit available is because it was a much needed modification. The addition of highly efficient injectors (dual pattern) is just icing on the cake.
I hate to see this car go down, but the entire event has been covered on this form as well as others.
Good luck Jonncy, I hope what ever way you go you get something that makes you happy. Fixing the car would be my recommendation. Replacing a cylinder is not that big of deal. You have resources in your area. PM MBTEK - < Scott can point you in the right direction

Probably stating the obvious. If you are planning on continuing to drive modified Benz's, it would be wise to learn some basic mechanical skills.

add fuel and insurance, you're talking at least $1800-2k/mo.
I hope this is a doctorate community college?

I say sell it and get the 65 then when you blow that up we can REALLY laugh at you.
Seriously, listen to what the guys here are telling you. You got great advice that got you pretty far with your car on their advice right? Why would they lead you wrong now?
Suck it up, buy a used cop car for a couple grand to drive around as you save up the $ to fix this thing and man up. You can't always have everything handed to you in life.
