Here's what I found under the driver side rear access panel. Clearly quite a bit fuel pooling on top the the fuel sender/tank. Fumes in the car and garage are unacceptable and its pooling by the driver side rear tire. I just dropped the car at the MB dealer near me (not MB dealer where purchased b/c diff states). I'm going to let him do a diagnostic and suggest a solution. I'll cross reference any parts with updates from previous threads. Does anyone have further suggestions as per course of action? Once these fixes are in place, can I feel safe with the car? With kids in the car?

If anyone has any fuel pooling in the senders try to do something that's never been done...

Call the local news and tell them they should look into this dangerous fuel leaking and Mercedes is offering nothing to help and have the printouts from nhtsa showing that they haven't done anything, hopefully the local news will put this on tv and then maybe others will follow suit, the thing is we gotta put pressure on the nhtsa as well because honestly they haven't done anything!

I know 03RSTT tried to no avail to get his local news station to pick up his story as the car sat leaking in the garage.. They weren't interested.

I don't have the time to put together a nice lil email but if someone is bored I'd bomb all these contact points with it and include a link to this thread. There's a descent enough potential for profit for them here I'd imagine.

Yes, please file an official claim. Let's not let MBUSA off the hook for a single faulty tank/sender issue. You dont even see this crap with low-end Honda and Toyotas.

Major BMW recall on 3 and 5 series. NHTSB

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...nes-stall.html

only 30 complaints to NHTSB and BMW recalls 500k cars. You'd think the ~100 that Greg has compiled would get some attention.....and this is leaking FUEL, not stalling cars.

Just picked my car up from MB service. I'm out $900 for fixing the fuel senders.

Actually on NTSHA there are over 350 complaints for the fuel issue on W211 cars

Will be filing later today. I had both senders replaced by benz dealer where I bought it at no cost to me bc it was within the 30day new sale warrenty... Now a lil over 1 year later fuel leaking AGAIN!! This time only from driver side sender. Atm the pass side bone dry and dusty as it should be!! Leaking sender is identical to the one in above post pic and it seems to be leaking from seam by upper right set of electrical connectors(fuel send motor).had almost same amount of fuel as in pic in other post as well. THis really stinks in more ways than one I'm goimg to dealership Monday to see what they willing to do as paying to replaace defective manufactured parts is BS!!!! Especially as this is now a recuring problem with these units. Hopefully with my prior documentation of identical prob they will do the right thing. No fuel sending unit should 'wear' out in a year or so!

Stalling is totally different than a leak. Stall can cause an accident. A leak, well has anyone crashed yet ?

I wish this was just a rusty brake line problem. I can run new lines in an entire car in a day for cheap, just takes time to bend up and install the lines. When no parts are available to do the repair your in a whole new game of trying to build your own parts from universal setups or retrofitting other parts. Neither would really be an option with where this tank sits and all the emissions junk in it.

I don't think anything will happen. I've seen several other recalls by other car makers in the last few months that are minor compared to our leak issues

Probably cause the other manufacturers aren't being a bunch of sallies about the problems like MB is. I think they're afraid of how big this problem really is and what it will cost to really fix it. If this spreads across all W211 and some others this will cost an incredible amount of money for them. They will keep denying till they are forced to do otherwise.
