URGENT: NHTSA Opens investigation into fuel leaks on the E55.

Okay...filmed today for about an hour. Went really well. They interviewed me about my experience and the problems with MB. They asked about the NHTSA investigation and the crash in Australia where those poor people burned up in their E-class. Filmed the fuel senders full of liquid gas...etc.
Now the news crew will go to MB for comment, a materials scientist to discuss the possible reasons for failure, the NHTSA, and lawyers.
They said they would LOVE to hear from anyone in the area with this same problem, so if you are in Texas PLEASE contact me via PM and I can get you in touch with the guy at Fox news.

I have only received 3 ODI#s from E63 owners....
All non-E55 fuel leaks are being tracked seperately on my spreadsheet. To be honest, there doesn't seem to be much interest in providing that data to me, I only have 24 cases (E320, E500, E550, E63, etc).... with the production numbers involved, I should have literally HUNDREDS of people contacting me.
Moosejaw indicates that there are about 300+ E-Class claims (General, not E55) on the NHTSA website... so some of them are getting filed, that data is just not being shared with me.

Wow, this is getting interesting, thanks very much for all your work on this issue GregMB, GnubiX and the others contributing their time!!
We are all very passoinate about our E55 AMG's and just want MB to stand behind their product so we can enjoy them for years to come. Personally, I love this car but this fuel issue is incredibly frustrating because there is no fix.
I hope MB USA comes to the table and does what is right.

Sorry to thread jack " had this happen to my Audi way back , AOA would not cover it , I had the service manger take detailed pictures of the failure. Kept it , a year later they issued a recall . Called AOA and got my $1800.00 back . Then it failed again , but i told the dealer they repaired it b4 the recall and must have used the same bad parts. Got it fixed no charge. Still driving my Audi.

We can make a difference by complaining to the right sources people.
We should spread this on the regular E-Class section as well if it's not a common topic there already.

I think they are referring to the expanded investigation to include the E-class in general, not just the E55.
From a numbers perspective it makes it so much worse for MB now.... They have exposure now for over 250,000 cars instead of only ~8000 and WAY more official complaints to review (and attempt to discredit) than just the 20 filed initially by E55 owners....
A little bit of television coverage would really push this over the top....IMHO.

The original investigation PE12001 has been CLOSED and a new investigation EA13003 is now OPEN. Maybe we can get a MOD here to update my original post with the new number in case someone new comes along?

Major progress! Hopefully MB wakes up and address the problem head on with no more bull. Better late than to have a serious accident or fatality prompt them into action. Considering I had the fuel sending leak with my 05 C55 has me really wondering - how pervasive IS this issue? More news to follow!

That is great news. I may have to do this repair so I can pass emissions as it seems to be tripping some codes. Should I get it done at the Benz dealership so it may be easier later to get reimbursed?
