I also paid out of pocket, $1200.00.

I contacted MbUSA and they said that this is a wear item for that old of a car? WHAT?

Looks like there a few C55's popping up with this issue as well. I'm crossing my fingers this doesn't happen to mine.

So far this is what my service advisor reports back regarding my fuel issue : "The technicians are still checking the car and I will be in touch as soon as I get any information from them. So far they can’t seem to find anything leaking or improperly sealing. They will keep trying until they find the cause."

This is even though the SA acknowledged a strong smell of gasoline coming from the driver side rear quarter panel area.....

Ask your SA if they can do a smoke test?

He claims they did a smoke test but found nothing even though they can smell the gas....What is weird is that when the car has a full tank it is noticeable, but when the tank is less than half full you cannot notice an odor...

Tell em to fill the tank and drive it about a mile then look for the leak. It'll likely be there. They leak after being filled up. Suggest they inspect how the gas tank was molded where the big ring screws down to hold the sending unit in place. seems a slight deformity in the molding is leading to the hard to trace issues commonly.

E320 CDI Fuel Sending units leaks
My 2006 E320 CDI has a leaking sending unit. I replaced the seal and it still leaks. Dealer wanted to charge me to drop the tank to search for the leak. No out of warranty help from the them or Mercedes Corp. It still leaks diesel.

I filed my complaint with NHTSA. Hope they force MBS to make good on all the leaking W211's.

MBUSA and a lot of their dealerships are being scumbags on this, they know it's a serious problem because like I said I was told they change 8-10 tanks per week on the E class, I actually took a pic of the old tanks because it was a joke to them...I will post it when I get to a pc

My independent Mazda Mechanic has two spare w211 gas tanks lying around his shop because he replaced those a year or two ago
He was the same guy who performed my smoke test

So here is some more BS from the dealer in Laguna : " we really have never seen a gas leak before".....And that picture is priceless....I have never had a gas tank leak with any of the other OEMs I have owned - BMW, Lexus, Porsche, Ferrari, Chevrolet, Jeep, Cadillac, Ford, Toyota, VW, and Honda....

I'd mention the name of the dealer as well so they can follow up if they want easily.

I sent an email from this page and they send a response that they got the email and what they do with it within 24 hours. My email just said the info was sent to the correct person or something general but a paper trail showing that NHTSA was shown this stuff can only help force them to force MBUSA to make it right.
