Motor rebuild for 600+rwhp

So since I'm going to have to rebuild my motor, what all would you recommend for a 600-650rwhp ultimate goal build? I'm thinking new pistons, but are the stock rods/bolts up to the task? Would like to plan now so I can get the car back on the road as soon as possible.

They discussed something about this few days ago, go down the threads and look for forged pistons. Mahle is recommended to be used but go down the the thread and introduce your idea there.

I'm sure that with proper tuning and proper fueling the stock engine can handle this amount of power.

I've made well over 600 on the stock internals. Depending on how far you are wanting to go a set of forged pistons will be all that you need. ARP will have rod bolts very soon also. The stock rods are forged and very strong but stronger bolts will always help.

haters crazy
Forged pistons for sure since you are opening it up and rod bolts won't hurt either. These cars have a pretty stout bottom end

Thanks guys. Any idea what type of machine work would be necessary? I'm wondering if I can get away with just a hone and new pistons or if the whole block needs to be bored over, balanced, etc. Also, is there anyone out there that builds these motors specifically?

Im curious too as I am in the same situation. As long as my motor is open, I want to do it right. Will any auto machine shop be able to sleeve these blocks?

If the stock bores are in good shape with no scratches at all then you can just put new pistons in. You cant hone out the alumisil bore without having to have it recoated again. The sleeves will be around $2550 installed by Darton. I'm lucky enough to have the Darton east coast engine building shop close to me so I will have them install the sleeves. The problem with the sleeves besides them not being ready yet is that I haven't got a actual answer to exactly what style sleeves they are doing. Any place that installs sleeves should be able to install them though but do your research before you let anyone do them.

That massive Weistec blower sure wouldn't hurt the cause. AMG head said it himself. The stock blower will hold us back to roughly 700-750hp crank. Just not gonna get more than that out of the stocker.

I say be one of the first to slap on the bad boy.
