did the split today.

I had cb tuning do the intercooler split today. I have this routed the way i did on my lightning big difference in temps. I compared it to another e55 there with a johnson pump and big heat exchanger that car has a pulley though very close in temps on this hot day.

isolate the engine coolant from the s/c cooling system i.e. stop engine coolant from mixing with s/c coolant

When you guys split the system, do you still run coolant for the heat exchange? Why not run straight distilled water? It dissipates heat much faster than mixed coolant.

He is dead right, but who knows if it is measurable anywhere other than in a lab. Pure water plus a surfactant (water wetter) absorbs heat better than virtually any substance. Keep in mind, pure water is also aggressive. Meaning it likes to dissolve stuff. For instance the metals in your system.

If you are looking for tenths or 100ths at the track, run distilled water and some water wetter. The rest of the time, run some antifreeze for corrosion protection IMHO.

Can you post the specs on your reservoir ? It looks like you used an overflow tank, but it would save a lot of time for all of us, if you posted the part number. Thanks in advance

Looks like a stock Mustang Cobra reservoir, '03-'04. I would prefer this over the BMW reservoir as it would be self bleeding.

Looks like it is less than a quart of fluid. Do you think that would be very beneficial ?

Here are some pics of the connection that has to be altered. It is located on the lower right hand side area of the radiator. After every thing is done make sure that none of the hoses are touching the alternator pulley.

In stock form

Undo top clamp and close the barb as shown in the pic

Attach a 3/4 inch barb on this end. One end of the bard will go into the factory tube the other end will connect to the reservoir. remember the reservoir is only a fill point

The clamps are a PITA even with 12" snips. I use a Dremel being careful about depth and surroundings, bam, done in no time.

Good thread here

its a 03-04 cobra res. works perfect as it worked perfect on a 10.88 unported eaton powered cobra we had. Recovery now is wayy better, 40-50 deg drop in temps i had a weak pump to start with too. after a highway drive the tank is not hot i couldnt touch the bmw tank on the other e55 after it was driven to the dyno the other day.

Of course the BMW reservoir is going to be hot. It's just a fill point to bleed the i/c system. Water does not actually circulate through it, so it is going to soak up the radiant engine heat.

Perhaps because that board has a built in translator.
Seriously, how about posting up your #s?

Mine with the new FT-P/Dads tank will get posted up Thursday. Now running WW and distilled for new results.

The lightning and Shardul. Doing this soon as well. Looks much cleaner than BMW solution and if I understand provides circulation as well.
