2009 and Panoramic roof worth $10k?

Need some advice and opinions.

Am debating between a 2008 with Sunroof vs a 2009 with Panoramic roof. Both have about the same miles and are relatively similar except for the year and roof. The 2009 is $10k more.

I've read in the boards that the 2009 has a better transmission and that the Panoramic roof is pretty sweet (I'd honestly prefer the pano roof), but is it really worth $10k? Are the year and roof worth that much?

Thanks in advance.

I thought the transmission changed with the new body style which would be 2010? If you really like the PANO maybe, but 10k for slight appearance upgrade at the risk of mechanical headaches and added weight up top (i guess you wouldn't really notice too much unless you were really into it). You'll get some back through higher resale value. but the longer you keep it the smaller that benefit becomes

Pano is ok, but certainly not worth $10k. The blacked out roof is great, but you can achieve that with a wrap. Also, don't be confused about the part that opens. The front of the pano roof is the only part that actually opens to the outside, just like the sunroof. The shade in the back only opens to let in light.

Definitely not worth it, just wrap the roof in black

When were the noisy valvetrain issues addressed on the 63s?

I have pano, never open it afraid might break it. And Pano weight about extra 80Lbs not worth it.

Personally when i was looking for one, i opted to get one without it simply because it seems like there are way too many issues with it.

Definitely not worth $10k extra. Wasn't anywhere close to that as a factory option i am sure.

Good luck.

Your not paying just for the pano, your paying for a year newer car as well!

2005 E55 AMG
I only shopped for NON Pano roofs when I bought my 55. They weigh more, creek during winter months, and cost a good amount of $$$$ when they decide to start acting up. I would save your money and go with the 08

08 vs 09

Mine has most everything, including pano. I have never had a problem with pano, parktronic, electric trunk, keyless go etc. in 3 plus years, but I do have the roof lubed bi-annually as part of annual service. My roof does not creak or leak. Adding 80 lbs weight is not going to be noticable in the real world. I personally love the open feel that pano gives the car, but to each his own.

IMO the AMG E is at it's best loaded up, I passed on several nice cars because they were not loaded up. A loaded car will also generally be easier to sell too.

OP, book out the two and offer the seller what you are willing to pay for the one you want. I would get a dealer PPI and a warranty as part of the sale.

Doesn't the 09 have the newer Command unit and a better sound system? Compared to the 03-08 W211's?

I love the pano roof, even though I can't open it anymore. I started getting the dreaded machine gunning on my second day of ownership and was quoted an insane amount of money to fix it properly. An indy shop tried to fix it a couple times but the fixes never lasted and now I am left with a glass roof that I cannot open. The sun shade still works though! Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the open feeling of the glass roof, even when it is closed.

Jake from Eurocharged just posted a DYI for replacing the pano motor and I'll probably try that in the future.

I think if you service the pano properly and on schedule, you have a better chance of never seeing any problems. Making sure it is lubed properly and using it frequently will also help.

If you really like the pano roof, get the car with it or you will regret it everytime you see another AMG with a glass roof. If it breaks later on, try the DYI fix and if that doesn't work just close it and never it open it again. You will still have a really nice looking glass roof that even when closed creates a nice open air feeling in your car. You can't recreate that open air feeling with a roof wrap, even though the roof wraps look nice externally. The added weight, no matter the amount, is insignificant to people who don't track their car. I have friends who weigh 250 pounds and I don't notice any loss of acceleration when they are in my car. I'm sure I would lose time on a drag strip but I don't drag race, so it is a non-issue for me.

Its a 2009 so it is 1 year newer and has pano and also with the 2009 they got updated electronics. If you notice the Radio in the 2009 is not the same as the 2008. This is because the 2009 is running the same system essentially as the new W212 E Class, but with a better layout (In my Opinion).

I think the 2009 also allows for realtime traffic updates since it uses the newer radio and may also allow you to upgrade to the newer MBrace and will allow you to use more of the remote features MBrace has to offer.

Is that worth 10k? No probably 7k to 8k however 09 was the last year of production for the W211 E63 and has the smallest production numbers of all the years it was produced. I believe about 350 to 400 2009s were brought to the US also causing the value to sit a bit more cause it is a little more rare and has updated Technology.
