Retrofitted facelift headlight inserts.

Cliffs: Use DEPO facelift-look headlights for prefacelift fitment and swap inserts. Do not use OEM facelift headlight inserts as donor.

I got this idea from slobenzo , who used DEPO facelift-look headlights for prefacelift fitment as the donor, which was a straightforward swap, here: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...eadlights.html

I preferred to use OEM parts so I picked up a pair of facelift halogen headlights. I learned this is NOT a simple swap if you are using OEM facelift headlights as the donor.
  • prefacelift is a 1-piece insert.
  • facelift is a 2-piece insert (large oval face, turn signal reflector)
Observation #1: the turn signal reflector insert has 2 prongs that clip into the housing, which the prefacelift does not have.
Solution: double-sided tape or adhesive

Observation #2: the actual position of the hole, where the turn signal bulb socket is inserted, was laterally offset by about 15mm!
Solution: I hacked the prefacelift turn signal portion of the insert and created a hybrid using the facelift reflector

Thank you! It's an E46 328i 4dr running 18x10 265/35-18 square setup (front & rear).

Yes, facelift headlights give it that 'fresh' look. Only a D3000 body though.

True that! You should get the one that FromM3toE55 is currently running on his LCI bumper.

Slightly off topic question:

Is your garage floor epoxy? What product did you use? Power wash and two coats? Anything else?

I am about to take on the garage floor project one of these weekends ...

Seriously! I believe there are a few other members that are also from SD. We should definitely get a meet going!

I'm running the (Carlsson style?) front splitter and 3-fin rear diffuser from Gary@Sunveer, here:

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...shipped-2.html

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...shipped-2.html

I mounted the front splitter using nuts, bolts, and fender washers.

For the rear splitter, I removed the rear bumper and test fitted the diffuser, then pre-drilled holes and used self tapping screws to secure it. Only the black plastic portion of the rear bumper was drilled, making certain the screws weren't too long that it penetrated through the diffuser. It's probably overkill, but I placed 14 mounting points as shown below.

Yes, I used 2 boxes of Rustoleum (solvent-based) garage floor epoxy. It's been so long ago when I applied it, but I remember the general order was like this:
  1. pressure wash floor
  2. degrease/scrub floor
  3. pressure wash floor
  4. acid etch floor
  5. pressure wash floor multiple times
  6. allow floor to fully dry
  7. apply first coat of epoxy
  8. allow allotted time to dry for foot traffic
  9. apply second coat of epoxy
  10. allow allotted time to dry for vehicle traffic
PM me if you have any other questions.

Your car is sick and the reason I'm staying with the pre facelift bumpers...

Can you PM me about the yellow city light? I'm really really liking the look.

Thank you! Yes, I like the facelift look but I prefer the prefacelift bumper if I had to choose between the two. I like the aggressive "edge" the facelift has, but the prefacelift has a nice proportion overall with the w211's lines.

Awesome stuff, thanks. I will be doing this soon.

On Topic:

Do you have more shots of the rear diffuser installed on your car? I am seriously on the fence on whether I want this diffuser from Gary or not.

Any more shots directly behind the car or at some angle? Thank you.

I will take more shots this weekend to detail more of the fitment, but here's what I have for now.

EDIT: I do want to thank the s4treg for posting the rear bumper removal DIY here:

Here's an inexpensive mod update...scuffed, prepped, then shot the fender emblems black. De-badged trunklid emblems but had to keep the star because of its mounting holes. Instead of the factory 85mm diameter emblem, however, I mounted a smaller 70mm star emblem. It's a subtle difference, but I like the it...

Ideally, would like to fill in the trunk holes and just have ///AMG on the right hand side of the trunk.

Sort of debating on a facelift trunk finisher...thoughts? Or, perhaps a prefacelift euro trunk finisher if I could somehow source one, lol.

Enjoy!
