rave - I will be checking this thread with interest because I love the wood wheel in my E500 and don't think I can get one in my ordered E55 due to the shift buttons on the wheel. I know there is an optional formula one wheel but know of no wood wheel for the E55. Hopefully someone out there knows and will post the good news!!!

Rave,
i'm not sure where you can get an aftermarket wood wheel, but my MB dealer in newport beach CA said that it would be available and installed on my 2004 E55 due in the first decade of October, complete with finger tip gear shifting. Although he might be confused, it seems like he smokes one too many doobies after surfing every morning
If it's available from the factory i assume it will be for retail as well, but like i said, the source of this info may be mistaken as i have not heard anything about the wood wheel anywhere else!

Can you do without a steering wheel for a while?
These guys look like they can recover your wheel in burl or in carbon fiber too.

Interesting, I guess to avoid major down time, you should buy a new wheel, send it to them, have your new wheel done, then when you get it back, have the new wheel installed, send your old wheel to them, sell the 2nd wheel.

I don't know what the down time is, but it might be easier and better to just drive something else or rent a car.

Here are 3 pictures of the Kleemann steering wheel for the E-Class w211. This wheel does not have the buttons on the back (non-55), but yours will look the same (plus buttons). The leather insert piece on the top and bottom of this wheel can be replaced with any custom piece of your choice including leather, wood, carbon fiber, etc.
