![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I imagine many AMG lovers are out for total performance on their tires, and rightfully so, however I live in a very flat and dull area of the country so I don't need THAT much "performance" from my performance tires. I'd like to find a decent performance tire that has decent tread life (20-30k miles at least) as well as good wet weather properties so I don't sit n spin at the first hint of drizzle. We simply don't have the twisties here nor do I autocross so I'm looking for a good compromise tire to go with.
Any recommendations on what might fit the bill here and not break the bank?
Thanks in advance!
Dave

The two most popular choices here are
Hankook Ventus Evo V12 (if that's what's it called)
Michellin Pilot SS
names might be here and there but these are the most popular two brands.

This is one of the saddest threads I've ever seen.....
Asking about a hard-as-iron tire that will give you 20-30K on an AMG is like asking about the best hyper-miling techiniques to use to get 30+MPG out of it....
Tires are cheap, and life is too short for this kind of thought process.

I'm not after hard as iron, I'm after something that's simply a notch or two under the ***** out, super glue sticky, race track ready, tires that are out there. Something in the upper middle, of the tire world. Not a racing tire but not a cheapo all season either.... Not all of us are lucky enough to have Colorado mountain corners to play on so why pay the extra $$ to get that little extra edge when it's not needed here....
It might not exist but I thought it would be worth asking....

I've seen some guys here with Nittos that seem to have good luck... I don't know all of their models, but they might be a cheaper option.
Sticky tires help in a straight line too...... even without corners to carve, there is still plenty of adrenaline available.![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

So far I am extremely pleased with the Falken FK453 (NOT to be confused with the miserable FK452). They have better grip (particularly in cold weather) than the Hankook V12, a good ride, and quiet. They seem to compare well to a Michelin PS2 (discontinued I think) but for much less money. The Michelin Pilot Super Sport may be an unexpected option too as they seem to wear very well despite the super sticky compound. My buddy has them on his M3 V8 sedan and will likely see at least 20K miles out of them. I'm sure someone here has gone through a set on their E55 and can estimate mileage on the car with more torque.
I haven't worn out a set of the Falken FK453 but so far I am optimistic. I have had a set on my E46 M3 for 10K miles and two autocrosses and they are still at 1/2 life or more. The set on my E55 have only 1K miles on them. I drive harder than most.

I am running 285/35R18 Kumho Ecsta LE Sport in the rear (245/40-18 on the front) and they are holding up well. Still having faster than desireable wear on the inside of the fronts, but 3 alignments all in specification indicate I will need to live with it. Goodyear Asymetrics could not deal with the inside edge loading and started having belt problems. Even got credit on a pair.
I have tried a lot of others, and have to agree the worst of all were the FK452.
My track tires are Hankook RS-3s.

Traction and cornering aren't the only things that come with a higher quality tire. You can end up with a tire that is noisy as well. When you think of what the difference it isn't going to break the bank over the 10-15k you'll see. Not telling you to go one way or the other but when the time comes that you want to drive the car and you're feeling a compromise you have nobody to blame but your self. I love my Michelin PS2s...Get yourself something decent, just my 2 cents.

Check out the Conti DW.. These were my last set and lasted around 15k on the rear and still had plenty of life on the front, which for these cars is pretty impressive.. I even had a few trips to the track with them..

Do you have anything to correct rear camber or did you change them out due to camber wear? I just picked up a set of bridgestone potenza S02's for the rear on the cheap since I couldn't manage to get even 8,000 miles out of the pirelli's that were out back.

I like my Hankook V12's - they were well under 1/2 the price of a set of Michelins - you get what you pay for. The PSS are top notch and have a great warranty.
Be warned - most vendors don't cover warranty on staggered setups or they give you 1/2 the mileage of a regularly rotated set.
if you enjoy your car, and I'm pretty gingerly with mine most time you'll see maybe 15-18k out of a set
that said, I have ~8k on my V12s and the inner fronts are already cupping a bit and I'm stock rims/height

Oooh yay I get to be the first to recommend these. I am running Toyo T1 Sports they are a fairly new tire to the market under 2 years I think. They have AMAZING grip in both the wet and dry and they are quiet and good looking. Won't break the bank and yes they fit your bill for longevity, my Toyo Proxes 4s I had on for almost 30k miles and I spin them like it's my job, just a nice all around tire, plus if you have a problem Toyo's customer service is outstanding. I have owned 15 sets of them over the years and always been happy.
