why not twin-charged E55?

we're hearing about bigger blowers or twin turbos - but why not twincharge with the existing s/c?

hmm - I only see one thread... and it turned into a circus

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...new-build.html

btw - twincharging isn't twin-turbo

it's a turbo-fed supercharger... pretty complex, but there are some pretty complex builds here!

LOL - not quite made of money for that stuff

just wondering if anyone has investigated vs TT, seems you'd get the low end SC power and top end Turbo

SNEAK PEEK!!!!!

FTP Electric Twin-Charge Kit....

Uses electricity to spin the turbo, freeing up massive horsepower. Simply install inline with your existing cold air intake (one for each side) and get ready to get thrown back in your seat!

Combine this with a set of free-flowing Magnaflo....er, FTP mufflers and you could see up to 1500RWHP on 87 octane fuel.

Yes I have. It's not the ideal route. But it will work if tuned properly. I don't have the time or patience for that.

one less turbo to purchase, a little more fab work, and probably the same amount of tuning

Never thought about that Todd, but you are right... I have never heard a Mercedes go "CHIRP (SC clutch) WHEEEEEEEEEEEEE (SC whine) PSTTT (BOV) and repeat four times... THAT would be sweet!

There are some kits for this for 03-04 Cobras and GT500s. I've seen a few, and while they look badass, you can make more power with just TT. Our motors (and Cobra/GT500 motors) are big enough that you don't need massive, laggy turbos to make good power, just a set of appropriately sized twins, so having the blower for extra low end torque isn't really useful. Hell, you might want less low end torque so your car can get off the line easier!

Also, when you crank the boost & try to use those twins to their full potential, the supercharger becomes a restriction, you're better off with a good short-runner NA intake manifold. I've seen one Cobra with twins and a Kenne-Bell twin-screw to eliminate the supercharger restriction, but he lost the torque advantage of the Eaton blower, and he was only making 800-850 to the wheels, which is a joke for the work he had to go through.
