s/c bolt need help

so im trying to change out the pulley and I can not get the bolt loose.i was going to follow the eurocharged instructions but mine is different than what they show.i don't have the same stud they used for the pry bar and my bolt head is 15/16 not 12mm.they say to torque it to 20nm which is about 15 ft/lb but this bolt is a lot tighter than that.i don't have enough room between the bolt and radiator fans to get a socket and impact gun on it.i can't get the clutch housing to stop turning when trying to loosen the bolt.i've tried the prybar method and a strap wrench and I just can't keep it from turning.
anyone have any suggestions?

in this pic you can see the stud im trying to use to pry against.its in about the 10:00 position

in this pic it shows my shortest socket on the bolt and I barely have room for one finger between the socket and the fan

I did mine a few weeks ago. I lifted the fan shroud up enough to get an impact gun on there. I also heated the bolt head with a torch for about 45 seconds. That combo with a strap wrench on the clutch housing worked for me. Some guys jack up the whole engine to get an impact gun on.

The instructions you received are prob for the 32Ks, not the 55Ks.

I performed the swap by taking out the fan shroud and using some air power. I also used a
1 5/8 socket to help tap the new pulley on. MB recommends torquing the bolt to 60nm, approx 44 foot pounds, on our m113s. Be sure you use some loctite 243 on the bolt and verify the gap between the pulley and the magnetic clutch is between .35mm and .45mm.

Good luck!

Oil filter strap wrench. 24mm long reach wrench and break that bolt loose and break your back at the same time. Its hard but you can do it. Your dowels will most likely break in the process. No worries. See the dowel post. Hope that helps.

well I've got the fan shroud up enough to get a socket and short extension.impact gun is having a hard time breaking it loose.
just to make sure, this is a standard thread right, not reverse?i'd feel pretty stupid if i'm trying to loosen it and its actually tightening it.

Counter-clockwise to loosen and an impact works great.

Yes turn the bolt to the left if you are standing in front of the car.

yeah that's what I was using.

finally came off.i switched from a short 15/16 impact socket and 6" extension to a long 24mm impact socket and 3" extension and it came right off.

I installed the new one with just the factory shim and my .030" feeler gauge slides in with just a little play.i'm guessing im at .032" clearance.everything turns without rubbing.

had one little mishap,i cracked a piece of plastic off the top of the fan shroud when I was lifting it up to slide the socket in.im hoping the metal cover plate will hide it.

thanks for the help guys.took a lot longer than I was expecting.

Extensions eat up a ton of the torque the impact gun has due to twisting the extension rather then transferring the blow to the bolt. Shorter is always better, or a stronger built extension. Or just grab a good ratchet or breaker bar and steal the handle off a big jack and you'll break anything loose.
