Another big push to add more ethanol to gas is underway.

Some suspect ethanol is what has lead to our fuel tank and sending unit woes. Now the government is pushing to bump up to E15 at many more stations. Even though there are many people warning of the damage it can cause older vehicles.

Ethanol is definitely one of the biggest scams going in the US right now. These farmers are getting fat and rich off government subsidies. Hell, a lot of these farmers sit there and hope their crops fail, because then they still get paid but have to do almost no work.

Didnt a few major carmakers recently say to not use ethanol in their cars due to engine damage? Guess it doesnt matter, since it will go to the shop for repairs and more $$ for them. Of course the work will be denied under warrantly due to "specifically no Ethanol in gas for refueling".

It's amazing what people believe when someone just throws the label "green" on something. People are foolish, politicians are conniving and if I keep typing I'm just going to get pissed so I'll leave it at that.

While I agree that ethanol is a scam, your statement about farmers getting rich off the government is pretty far from the truth. If you'd take a close look at the contents of the ag bill, you'd see only a small fraction of the money goes toward farm subsidies and that the majority is actually going toward welfare and other things that have nothing to do with agriculture. It's all bundled together so people don't really see where the money is going. Ask your friends if they'd donate $20 a year to agriculture and then ask them if they'd donate $19 to welfare and you'll see my point.

And Toadster, I guess you didn't know that the U.S. has a MASSIVE amount of oil ha? In fact more than all the middle east countries combined account for the different types.

Brother, you are right but

For crude oil US isn't even in the top 12.

http://www.opec.org/opec_web/en/data_graphs/330.htm

For coal US does have World's 25% Reserves though.

That is fracking not true

I wish the gov't would come out and say "We are importing most of our oil because when imports stop, we have our own stash we have kept in the ground."
Of course the other things the gov't has done is to resitrict import (54 cent per gallon tariffs on imports - although this may have lapsed in 2012) of foreign ethanol which Brasil makes much more cheaply than we do. They use sugar cane which is more productive. "Sugarcane produces eight times more energy per pound than corn"

And Mercedes is one of those. Find another post by me or on the PL.

The engine is not the major problem. The fuel delivery system is the issue. Just as some here have theorized that it may be responsible for the fuel tank leaks. ANything in the fuel system that is hydrocarbon based (plastic, rubber, etc) needs to be designed to handle the ethanol.
