I'm surprised that no one has used spacers to lift the S/C to put a larger inter-cooler under there. How much room do you need to get a worth while improvement?

I remember reading an old thread on here where someone was going to make some big ol' spacers to do that, but I don't know if it ever materialized.
A little bit of extra space seems like it would help quite a bit, even with the stock i/c. Maybe rig up some flat ducting that mounts under the hood right behind the grill and channels a little airflow in that general direction for some extra help.

There's not a lot of extra space under the hood. Would need to measure, but it seems like raising it up an inch might be all you could get, and that's not a huge difference. Factoring in the work to put in a taller inter cooler, and the returns on the work seem low.

i was thinking to even bump up the hood like a CTSV or BMW. with a larger cooler i thought there would be a lot better gains.
Or even if some one could get the top mounts done with today's pumps

Top mounts have been done before, but as far as I know nobody has achieved very good results.
Figuring out the air intake is also an issue, unless you just stick a mushroom filter on the throttle body and have it suck in hot air. MKB did a pretty nice looking top mount with air filters, but they also charged a small fortune for it.
