No more dead body in the trunk, thanks Shardul!
That dreaded dead body noise from the trunk visited my new E. After making sure my subframe mounts were still intact that left me with the next logical suspect, the rear shock. Shardul assured me that it was the culprit if the subframe looked good and was able to send me a good pulled OEM shock for a fair price. Installation was easy and no more thumps from the trunk over bumps (geez, I should write for Dr. Seuss!).

It's definitely not normal but our air springs mask most of the normal compression and rebound symptoms of a bad shock. Get underneath or remove the wheel and first make sure the subframe mounts are intact. If they are, take a look at the shock to see if there are any signs of oil leaking. If so, then you know it's a bad shock. Here's how my shock looked...
