Differential broken main shaft

Hi,

As you can see the end of the main shaft has broken away and is sliding in and out freely hitting the large crown wheel. The piece that's broken away is sliding freely, but the rest of the shaft it still in there tight.

can anyone please tell me if the main internal shaft is the same across all years on the w211/w219 e55.

My diff in the pictures is pre facelift 2003. The main dealers said they cant supply the part. EPC showed that the part available is for 2004 onwards only?

Difference between years is that on the early diffs, the wheel drive shafts bolt onto the diff. On the later models the wheel drive shafts slide in.

Thanks

I think I PMd you in regards to this, as I have a spare diff here in my shop. PM me the last 8 digits of your VIN and I can find out for you!

If it doesn't work, eBay has a bunch of diffs for pretty cheap; like $200.

I've been on the lookout for one of the P30 diffs, but can't find one. None have been on eBay for the past two months.

Here's one from an '06 CLS 55 for $199. You'd probably need axles, though.

Didn't clearly read you post right the first time.

Which part do you need? Looks like you posted pics of #270, which is found on W211 03-06 E500/E55 ONLY.

Your pinion is probably done. Its a lot to over haul that and it not howl or blow up immediately. Theres alot of shiming that has to be done, itd be cheeper to get the ebay unit. But if you really want to 270, 280, 200, 295, 360, 330, 320, 300, the crush sleeve, carrier bearings, and be prepared for countless hours shiming to get the correct pattern and pre load on the bearings. Unless youve done a bunch, then id say hell yeah. Tell the dealer to cross it in the epc, sometimes those random parts show up on other cars. Might even be on a g wagon

thank you, yes its just part 270, but the EPC does not show that it applies to the early 2003 diff, only 2003 onwards.

its got to be the same part for all the years right?

thanks I will take that into consideration, diff was fine until I heard the pin hitting inside. I wont need all the other parts. maybe the seals.

It took all the Drifting and burnouts I gave it.

That's a nice, big, empty area to be doing that.

yes we were told to leave straight after that, you can see the yellow security lights on the vehicle in the background at the beginning of the Vid.

The best part is my mrs is filming and she knows the car can launch quick ..........she anticipates this and starts moving the camera to the right
