Some more parts came in today.

Shock tops for the front assembly.

The steering universal joint I feel may be a bit lose and I took a chance on buying one to put in.

And the spring tops for the stock cars (that come in many thicknesses)

The issue now is that I feel I have two pieces that do the same thing. The bilstein kit has spring adjustment for the rear and from the parts it is done at the top, near where the spring sits in the body.

That would preclude the use of these set-tbickness spring "top holders" for the rear springs.

I'll take some pics. I have time still as I am waiting for a few more parts past Monday anyway, so I can sleuth out solutions before I dig in.

3) The bilsteins are adjustable (as are the KWs) but I feel as though from what was able to read there is more range.
4) I like Bilstein.. You may need to chalk this one up as "Personal Preference"

Did you know KW is OEM stock for one of the black series cars? And its a V3 instead of a V2, but you can't really GET the V3s for our car unless its 1000s more through the dealer?
So are the Bilsteins as good as the KWs and are they as sporty ie can they be made as stiff?

Nice. If you can swing it, add a new front swaybar(bushings) to your project as well.

Doh...sorry, I'm a bad reader and see you already are concerned with those items.

You have to drop the subframe in order to get the bar out. Oddly enough, they only sell the bushings with the bar. Hmm, maybe add motor/trans mounts to your reno as well. But, you may be doing headers in the future and can knock all of that out at the same time.

Yes, I will do the mms at either the cam cover/ top side refresh or when I get the mbh.

I'll research the bar. I can do this in my garage if I put the suspension on this low mile 86.5 928 I am restoring and move it into the driveway. That would give me a flat surface and more privacy from lookieloos.

I did this in Feb. Love it. I will say it's not a fun job. I did it mostly by myself on a lift with air tools and it took a while. What year? This how to helped a lot but is on a 04 and I have a 06. I needed to drop the rear section of the exhaust to remove the rear control arm bolts. Just an FYI.

Thanks SHARDUL!

This new parts game is so much more fun than the old parts game:

But I've digressed. I can maybe promise not to sully this thread with non E55 pictures.

Waiting for the front shock hat shims, and the proper a-arm piece for one of the front corners, and then I will start.

I want to remove All remnants of the Airtragic, so am looking for info on removal of the front pump and manifold for the air lines, as well as the button panel by the shifter.

The arms shown are MUCH larger and beefier than they looks in the pics I posted (as well as other posts).

Have not started yet. Still need to find out how to rubber isolate the rear springs from the lower a-arms properly. There are coil sleeves I have found online, but not sure if that is the best option.

Have to get the 30k mile 928 out of the garage first before this shiny-part storm starts.

Getting Close! lol. Previous car in line still needs to be rolling to get out of the spot the E55 will take in the garage.

In the mean time:

I got these and put some v-bands on:

Wow, sometimes things move slow.

But things do move, and the result is here: http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1986-5-porsche-928s/

This leaves and the e55 gets the parks space for the work.

Good luck with the eventual install.

I have KW V2s on my E55 after the front two struts failed (at 30K miles)

At first I set the rebound way too hard, so the ride didn't meet my expectations.

A quick turn of the adjusters and the car rides absolutely amazing, and I can't even describe how much better the car handles. The KW V2 and Pilot Super Sports have transformed the car to an enjoyable handling car, maybe not a autocross monster.

Its the big issue with these cars. People like the buttons, but a steel suspension just...works better here.

I need to get on this...I hate my buttons...it screams "let me disable you".

I think you posted a parts list for the suspension components, but if not. I would be every so thankful if you could post the PN's for the rebuild and coilover install.

I did post those.... I think I saw the thread recently. I'll try and find it unless others can and link here.

Alot of delays in between the start of this story and the second act. The second act being the work as the car is disassembled and reassembled with the new parts.

So I still have the plan to convert to steel suspension, and the new additions so far to the plan are now:

Possible LSD unit (probably wavetrack)
MBH Headers install and related exhaust pipes (already have the headers)
Motormounts
Transfluid replacement
Trans mount
Conductor plate
Possible rear main seal leak repair
Rotors and pads all around

But the focus right now is disassembly, and man - am I good at that.

Car is up on stands and READY:
