I saw 65psi on my factory setup, and set it to that pressure when I ran 340lph pumps along with a adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Ran nice and smooth!

has any one tried a universal inline filter at the top of the sending unit, it has 5/16 rubber fuel line with clamps, i was thinking removing stock filter and give this a try, any thoughts.
thanks.
thanks.

The small black part with connector is the fuel level sender. It's replaceable on this unit compared to the other fuel sender unit with fuel pump which has it build in and cannot be exchanged without replacing the entire assembly.
That's the difference. You got the wrong assembly unit.

The only way to me is to modify the access cover to be a bit bigger and maybe even chop a bit of foam out from under that rear seat.... Not sure.
I dont want to put a filter in the engine bay so thats why I was looking back there.

My fuel level works fine BTW.
You were talking about the bit on top of the fuel sender on the first page with the black plug?
Just interested to know what that black plug actually is?

Are you sure about this? Im not saying your wrong and I dont profess to know heaps about the fuel system but my overseas car doesnt even have anything there fullstop. There is no connector no nothing its just a blanked off bung looking thing that is like laminated in there like the rest of the fuel sender parts...

I took the liberty and "stole" the picture from another member and marked the unit for educational purposes only.

I am 100 % sure on that one! This unit has the fuel level sensor outside and is fully replaceable if bad. My units in my 2004 E320 and 2004 E55 AMG DON'T have this unit. They have the one that houses the fuel level sensor internally.

You cannot switch from one model to the other model and vice versa.
If you're working on your car because of the famous fuel smell problem then you need to replace the entire fuel pump/fuel sender unit and not just the sensor.
In the USA MBUSA has an extended warranty program going on where one can get it replaced for free by a MB dealership or like in my case I went to a independent MB certified repair shop owned by a friend of mine and he replaced both units. I then went back to MB and gave them my DL, my registration, my invoice and proof of payment. 2 weeks later I got a big check from MB with the full reimbursement of this repair.
And before you ask why I went the extra rout: MB mysteriously found problems that need to be fixed worth over $5.500 which were totally unnecessary. That's why I asked him to fix the only issue this car really had and he fixed it for 1/3 of what MB wanted to charge. It wouldn't have mattered since MB would have paid for it but they did it the wrong way and MB denied the warranty repair. You see you get the run around but in the end it wired all out!

It's so simple. If you currently have a unit installed with the fuel level sensor built in, buy the same one and replace it. If you gave a unit currently installed with the fuel level sensor on the outside, buy that unit and replace it.
You cannot switch from one model to the other model and vice versa.

Anyway I'll probably just go with an external filter on that unit and replace the pumps I think. Mine are already filled with JB WELD.
Its just good to know what the deal is with this stuff.
I am not in USA and my country will NOT replace these cracked sender and pump units under warranty... Well im not taking my car in to them to find out the hard way.....
This warranty thing only applies to the USA.

PM me your VIN and I'll tell you what you need.
I hope you drive an AMG because you can afford it and the necessary repairs and maintenance that comes with it and not just because it's a cool car. Too many people think driving an MB costs the same as a Ford or Dodge when it comes to up keeping. Never save on important parts or you will run into much more expensive issues later down the road when stuff really breaks because of cheap non-OEM parts or by using short cuts.
Just an advise. Of course you can do whatever you want with this car.

So the 6 year old units replaced in japan have already failed again due to cracking. I filled them with JB weld and its been fine since. But obviously I will sort out the filter and keep an eye on the condition of the pumps.

My units were replaced in Japan circa 2009 (car is a Japanese import E55 to New Zealand) so im not hugely worried about them but I will be replacing / upgrading them at some stage.

Ha, that's my pic.
My old unit had a different connector. I did receive the adapter to mate my old connector to this one.

Dig, due to returning from being away with work. Opened my new fuel sender today... Wrong type. Is the one that Denroll has, mine only has the single 'vertical' connector, however the one received has two. Damn it! The part number is correct and picture was correct too. What a pain in the ****.

Holy smokes, just checked. I'm knackered, so took a while to dawn on me, that I was awaiting fuel sending units, and received the fuel filter again. Completely wrong part arrived, however the correct number has been listed on the invoice.

In with the new.
Surprisingly quick job. Was 45-60 mins. Only the filter though, still waiting for the pumps. Can't arrive soon enough. I took a heap of photos of the job for interests sakes. Car started a smidge easier than normal too

133k km (83k miles) worth of fuel. At 15l/100km that is just short of 20 000 litres of fuel! It looks as though oil had been poured through it. Holding it up to the sun lets through zero light.
PS how can I upload multiple pics to the one post? It is only loading one even when I choose three or four.

There are 6 or so individual lines to select pictures per post on the attachment window. If only one attachment meets the requirements for files to be uploaded the software will automatically take the other attachments off the list and let's you only upload the one that is within specs.
