my car doesn't have black birdseye maple?

Just noticed something with my car after visiting the local dealer where they had a Brilliant Silver E55 sitting on the showroom floor. My E55 doesn't have the black birdseye maple wood trim and the area around the shifter isn't silver like the one I just saw. My E55 has a burl walnut type wood around the shifter and all of the other areas that the black maple is supposed to be. My car isn't a designio or anything special and I have the standard charcoal interior. Does anyone else have this walnut trim as well or is my car "special"? The window sticker says "black birdseye maple" and the car doesn't have it. Please post what your 2003-2004 E55 has for the wood trim. Thanks.

i heard about that before too, i would bring it to the dealer, and demand a change, or something, unless you like the brown wood, and if you do, act like your mad, and demand something else

It was a secret option for 2003 that is a regular option for 2004. Your dealer must have ordered it that way.

Its very weird that the wood option didn't come up on any of the screens when I was there ordering the car. I did a search and read the results and I am not the only one that has had this happen but its o.k. One thing for sure is that I am not going to change the wood.....just wanted to know what everyone has. Thanks again.

Stephen: I special ordered the burl walnut on my '04 E55.
I had the black birdseye maple last time and didn't like it at all (looks a lot like plastic in the absence of sunlight). I've been very pleased with the look and would definitely do the same again if I had to re-order.

Some people like the birdseye because it's not standard in the E320 and E500, so it makes the E55 different. Since I never look at any other E interiors, I really don't care what other people have, I just want what I like.

That said, you definitely can get your burl changed out for birdseye if you complain. No arguing the point since your sticker makes it clear. Get what makes you happy.

I test drove one with black birds eye but really always loved the burl walnut so we ordered it that way. With the KG we have that and leather on the shifter.

I too ordered mine with the Walnut Burl. Just makes for a warmer looking interior.

I agree with BMMS8...walk into you dealer mad as he*l and try to talk him out of an extra set of floor matts or something.

The E-55 brochure I have stated on page 12 the optional burl trim, which I prefer and so ordered. No problem with the vehicle arriving as ordered. I was disturbed that the brochure's cover states 2004, and my July delivered model is a 2003. It is just another annoyance that takes away from the pleasure of the AMG experience. Take the advice and complain anyway, and maybe get a hat or shirt.
MB does not have its act together, and the competition to come from Bently and Porsche in 4doors is just a couple of years away.
At least you can just apply pressure to the accelerator, play with the shift buttons, and make your troubles go away with that beautiful exhaust sound.

Thanks for all of the posts. I really don't mind the burl walnut, I just wasn't aware that I was going to get it. No need to stir up a fuss at the dealer....just wanted to know how it was ordered when the window sticker says nothing. Do any of your window stickers have that option listed?

I also ordered my E55 with burl walnut. I just checked the window sticker and I don't see it listed anywhere.

I checked my windown sticker and the burl walnut does not appear, just the standard black maple- go figure.
