So recently thinking it may be time for a refresh. I have a e92 m3 that I use primarily as my "sports car"., so recently just been using the e55 for the occasional grocery store trips and errands.

With that said wondering if i should be better off in a newer e or 5 series with better gas milage and newer tech. Thinking like a 2010/11 which wont be that much more than selling the e55.

Thoughts??

Sounds like you're getting bored. Perhaps throw a pulley and tune on the e55 and refresh the interior. Probably save you some green in the long run. Is there any real specific reason that you have to want to sell the 55 or just looking for a change of pace?

Yes just getting bored and not using it for what I thought i would. Using it more for errands which its great for... but then really no need to have a fast car for that. Which is why i was thinking a newer car w more creature comforts would be nice.

I find myself driving the m3 when i want to go for fun drives. I had a e350 for a rental for a week and really liked it for what it was ( a comfortable cruiser)

212 interior is cheap.

if I were you ill just get a facelift bumper or get a bmw since you already have a m3 it would match nicely in the garage.

Yup - already got the e63 front end. Rest of the car just starting to feel dated as well. I guess I could do new steering wheel and wheels... but not sure its worth investing more in a 11 yr old car at this point... which is why im wondering if this may be the right time to make a move.

If your looking for a e class as a non Amg daily, what about the E250? Better mpg than a Prius and honestly, the do drive nice. (Not that slow) The om651 moves a sprinter just fine so how do you think it moves a e class? That would be my pick of a non Amg e class.

I think the 2012+ models had direct injection which gives you 302hp instead of 268hp with the 2010/2011. I think gas mileage is also better. Use epcnet and find one with all the options, W212 had more options available than the old W211.

THIS... I would get one of these, with a tune they are just as quick as a stock E55.

if your choice was between the 2 of those, sadly I'd take the 535. Throw a tune and downpipes on it and you'd have a quick daily with all the creature comforts you want.

AMG is the top of the food chain. I would never exchange a lion (even an aging one) for a baboon.

Staying with what you are asking,

E350 all day long. I loved mine just wanted or yearned for more pooooweeeer. But, loved it for a commuter. DONT get the BMW. Drove a 5 series 2012 and it felt like a 7 Sries and was a m car. Huge hood, floated on the road and felt heavy. Hated it. Throw a lip on the rear of the e350 and tint the windows and you will have a great looking 30+ mpg car. Or go with the E550 turbos and tune it and have the best of both worlds.

AMG is the best you will get. period.

I've owned M before, my entire group of friends all drive M. i was the first to surprise everyone with an AMG. i waited first until my entire group had upgraded to a new BMW while they were under the impression i was getting into an F10 550i. ..they were all so excited with there upgrades, now a lot of them are regretful
even some that are absolute die-hard BMW fans are considering going to AMG their next car. one in particular is currently on his 9th bmw, an alpina b7
still, props to the F10 m5, can't deny that

not sure about the 10/11 e class, but i can say the current model e350 is hands-down one of the best luxury sedans money can buy right now if that is any indication. drives like a dreams & is a beautiful car. amazing in white w/ amg package. compared to my friends current model m package 535xi, it is definitely a better car. my only disappointment is the premium HK sound system- it sucks in the w211 and it still sucks w212. f10 has a better premium sound system ...really wish mercedes would drop HK already and go back to bose, or to bang and olufsen

As an owner of both I can say that the w212 e350 is an amazing long distance cruiser with enough power to go by things in comfort and luxury, BUT with that said nothing puts a smile one on my face like when I get in my 55k and go for a blast, if I where you I'd sell the m3 and get a e550 keep the 55k on my opinion

so dead on accurate about the HK Sound system.. I have a 530 Xi with logic 7 and the sound system is miles apart from the logic 7 on my e63.. by the way keep the amg... these are rare enthusiasts cars that are ageless and timeless.. no matter what year... it's a AMG!

The longer I have my E55 the more I'm kicking myself for not giving Benz a shot earlier (coming from BMWs and Porsches). Yes you car is 11 years old, but I agree the w212's interior quality is lower then w211. I drive my car mostly as a luxury cruiser and it does a great job. So why spend the cash if your needs are covered? Throw some nice wheels on for a fresh look and enjoy
