6000K Bulb Burnt Igniter??

Driving home last night.. I get a message on the dash saying, "Low Beam - Right"

I had put in 6000K bulbs a few months back.. but ordered two pairs in case one burnt out. So I figured no big deal, get home and swap out the bulb...

Pull in the driveway, pop the hood and it smells like burnt electronics near the passenger side headlight. Igniter was real hot to the touch, so I let it sit for a few mins.

Unplugged the igniter to find it was pretty much melted where the bulb plugs in. The actual bulb itself has melted at the connection point as well....

Any idea as to why this would happen?
I think these bulbs are 55W..

Most aftermarket HID bulbs burn quite a bit hotter. They can burn the ignitor and or chrome on the projector bowl. What type of HID's were they?

FYI: Always run OEM Osram or Phillips. Burn cooler and more efficient. Osram 66240 CBI's is what I run and they are 5K.

Run the cbi's. Worth every $. The 55w bulbs could of overloaded your igniters since the igniters are only 35w.

This happened to me also. Aside from the burning smell of electronics I also noticed smoke escaping from beneath the hood while I was driving. Upon inspection half the ignitor had melted/burnt away! I replaced the ignitor and all bulbs and havent experienced any issues since.

What bulbs are you running?
Where did you source them?

So I'm guessing the reason for this is the 55w bulbs??

I bought everything over eBay. Pretty sure oem bulbs are 55 watt.

1 x Hella Xenon HID Igniter Ignitor Starter Socket Unit Bulb Holder Adapter

2 x D2S D2R D2C 6000K HID Bi Xenon Headlight Bulbs

I also upgraded the high beams to 6000k xenons at the same time with a 55W HID XENON Conversion Kit. Works beautifully out on the open country roads.

I paid $23 for a used ignitor on eBay - hasn't missed a beat.

Found one at a scrap yard for $40. Boom.

Going to be running a set of Osram 66240's.
