Stock E55 audio system / bluetooth / phone question
My 2006 E55 is on a car transport trailer on its way to me as we speak, so I have not had a chance yet to get familiar with it. Looking through the owners manual that I downloaded off the net, I'm left with more questions than answers about the audio system.
Does the stock audio system have bluetooth? Does it have a external audio jack? What I would like to do is play my stored music on my iPhone 5s on my car system and also if possible answer and speak on my phone hands free. Can this system do that? If not have any of you guys found an invisible and elegant, simple way to accomplish that? I don't want to have wires running all over the interior to do this. I would like to accomplish this if possible without seeing anything on the interior of the car. Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Your car MIGHT do it, but doubt it... You want a dension 500BT iPod/iPhone integrator. Will allow you to use the dash phone and everything else you want to do

Phone integration was an option. On top of that, your car would need the appropriate OEM bluetooth puck to operate hands free for the phone.
The car does come with an AUX jack in the glovebox. If the car has been wired with an Apple cord, that plug is no longer functional, though.

Congrats on your purchase - you'll enjoy it that's for sure!
Once you get in your car, open up the center console - if your car is pre-wired, you'll see the docking hardware that will allow an OEM bluetooth puck to be plugged in. If the hardware is there and the BT puck isn't there, you can buy one off eBay for much cheaper than the dealership.
And as others have said, iPod integration kit is a dealer-installed factory option. If your car doesn't have it, it will cost over $400 at the dealer, but it is by far the cleanest solution.

Please bear with me, I am a phone/computer tech zero. The bluetooth puck and ipod integration kit are two different items and both are needed to use my iphone as a music source and also as a hands free phone?

The car needs to be both pre-wired and have the PSE/cradle installed before you can even get to start considering what "puck" to buy. If you have both, great. If not, better start reading this very freaking long thread:

This is all incredibly confusing stuff for the non technically oriented. Is all this stuff needed to make music streaming and hands off operation of a iPhone in a '06 E55 fairly simple for a good car stereo store to add? I can spin wrenches all day but this tech stuff is just way over my head.

Doug, congrats on your purchase. I have an 06 as well.. Wait till you get the car so you can determine :
-inside the arm rest console, there is a "puck style device" plugged all the in back inside of console which senses phone blue tooth. Problem is, like mine, it may be outdated for newer phone connection. Again, this is assuming you car had this option. Im sure it does though. Puck is slip on/off device if you need to upgrade. Found used on eBay or FS section here sometimes, newer puck style (goes by #'s)
