Lokey MB in Clearwater... Fuel Tank issues

So my car is having the Fuel Tank leak issue. I ordered a new key for the car so I had to go pick it up and figured I would see how much time they need with the car to determine if the fuel smell is because of the warrantied issue. I went ahead an filled all the way up just before getting there. I pulled into the Service lane told the SA I was there to pickup a key but also wanted to see if they could check the fuel tank for leaks based on the Extended Warranty of the Fuel Tanks. he said let me just make sure you are in our system. I walked back to the parts counter to get the key. came back out and he was talking with the Service Manager. Service manger shook my hand and told me they have 7 tanks on order right now, he would go ahead and have the SA put in a Warranty request and order a complete tank. they are going to call me when it comes in to replace it. They didn't even look at the car . Also the SA printed out the VMI I asked if I could have a copy and he said yeah I was going to give you copy so I printed 2 (11 pages of history). MB of TPA over by the stadium told me they couldn't because it had confidential info when I had my C55 in there for service.

So I have to say if you have to visit a dealer in TampaBay, I am going to recommend Lokey, oh and they have better pricing than MB of TPA. Key cost me $264 out the door, MB of TPA wanted $300

Has anyone had their full tanks replaced? How long does that usually take?

Hundreds of people have. The job takes about half a day but sometimes the parts will take a while to come in.

I had mine done. New tank and all. In and out in a day. Had to wait a month and a half to get my tank in though

Good to hear, Lokey was not as accommodating over the phone. I'll have to stop in and do the same in person.

I had my fuel tank replaced in my w211 e55 wagon under this "recall" at a different dealer. The smell is now most apparent if I leave A/C on and let idle for a little, the cabin wreaks like fuel. This is within 3 months of the work being done.

Fuel damper on the rail might be leaking a bit.

.
Regarding service at MBoT, you need to build a better relationship with your SA. If you want I can throw you a few names. VMI's have never been an issue with them, they are correct that it's not releasable to the public--it's about your relationship with them. Personally, Lokey is my #2 due to distance and I won't patronize Crowne.

Also MBoT had me in and out in three days, fuel tank and an air strut back in Nov. They acknowledge the delay in tanks but also had a few on hand--the air strut was the issue sourcing since I asked for Arnott.

That's good to know they are down the block from me (even tough my tank was replaced) in 2009 by the Original Owner

I have to admit it has been a few years since I have given MBoT a shot. they are equal distance from my home as I live in Trinity, MBoT is more convenient to my work, but usually take a "sick" day when I need to do anything with my car. I do most my own service so I seldom need dealer service, and when I do I usually call both for an estimate. Lokey usually wins out price wise. Anyone ever go to MB of Wesley Chapel?

I agree... If you are getting the smell only when car is running and AC is on, it is pulling fumes from under hood, not fuel tank related.

from my service records, tank has been replaced once and fuel pumps have been replaced once. And it shows they were out of warranty replacements in 2010 and 2012. so that means they paid for it.
