Window Chip.....Condensation?

Not sure if I have a chip in the window (which is not visible to the quick glance) but when I run my AC during high humidity, the passenger side window appears to build up with condensation on the exterior. If I put my windshield wipers on the condensation will go away so it’s definitely on the outside.

If I do find a chip on the exterior of the window can I get it filled?

Thanks,
Mark

Cool ac air cools the surface of the window pane and in high humidity and warm temperature condensation is going to appear on the cold glass

Right, and you don't need a hole in the glass for that to happen. Normal, no problem.

Normally I would agree....

Normally I would agree except for the fact that this ONLY is happening on the passenger side of the car. It does NOT happen on the drivers side of the car.

Thanks,

My guess is that your vents are blowing different temperatures for each side of the car. Measure the airstream with a termometer for each side.

The windshield is glass then polymer then glass, three layers. You would be challenged making a leak using a drill. Just colder on one side, like Papieye said.

Mine does the same thing

Same here, when it's humid and not crazy hot outside, I get a mist on the outside of the windshield near the bottom by the wiper when parked. It's on the passenger side only. Papieye is absolutely correct in his post above. I can feel just a little bit of cold air coming out the defroster vent on that side only, even when the defroster is not selected on. It cools the glass where the hot air hits it, and then condensation forms on the cooled glass. If it's scorching hot outside, the glass doesn't have a chance to cool to that point and it doesn't happen. In the morning or at night, when the sun is down, it can actually get bad enough to start blocking vision on that side.

I'm thinking there is a fault in the climate control logic that keeps the passenger side defrost open just a small bit even when it's not commanded to, or it is properly commanded to close but it's still either wedged open a bit or the seals on the door, if that even exists, are leaking.

It's a minor thing, but it is annoying. If anyone knows a fix for this I would love to hear it. It's not worth disassembling the dash for, as that's a huge job, but if there is a easy fix I'd love to do it.

Search heater control valve. It's a long shot, but the symptoms are similar.

Thanks. I took your advice and looked around the internet. That valve seems to control temp, making the car blow heat when selected, and shutting off the flow of hot water to enable to have the car able to blow cold air with the A/C on. My heat and A/C work fine, it seems like a persistent inability to shut off the airflow to the passenger side defrost vent completely. I believe the original poster in this thread has the same problem.

When I choose defrost, the defroster on both sides open all the way and flow freely. When I close the defroster, they both close, with the drivers side closed completely, but the passenger side has a small leak that allows it to continue blowing a small amount of cold air against the windshield.

Whatever controls the defroster doors, if in fact there are doors, is either not closing them fully, or the door is closing fully but whatever seals it is faulty.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Makes sense, I'm sure it's an easy fix, AFTER you take the dash out.

That's exactly what I won't do!

Taking the dash out is just way too much work for a problem that is really just an annoyance. If anyone knows of a easy way to fix this so that the OP and I can get this fixed, that would be great.

This place is a joke.
Your heater case is broken and the defrost vent is partially stuck open. Removal of dash and replacement of heater case is the solution.
