So recently I found a small power steering fluid leak coming from the steering rack. I also started hearing a small squeaking, whistling sound coming from the car after driving about 25mph+. The noise is only present while the car is driving and not present when I'm parked and revving the engine.

Has anybody experienced something like this? Thanks in advance!

If you have a power steering leak, you're hearing the noise because its probably low on fluid. Fix the leak.

My power steering fluid isn't low and i've been keeping an eye on it since I've noticed the leak. My concern is the whistling noise and whether or not it's coming from the steering rack. I don't want to fix the leak if i'm going to have to replace the whole steering rack anyways

I did a search and found this thread that touches on the noise i'm hearing. Am I going to have to shell out $2k to get this annoying sound to disappear?

I'm always up for a DIY if I can source a replacement steering rack.. are all steering racks the same across the w211 chassis?

Pretty sure the AMG rack is different, quicker and the E63 is different from the E55 as well.

I'm getting mixed answers with this. I guess the only way to find out is by asking a merc tech

Theres an adjustment screw on the rack, but it only affects play
