Hey everyone
Just read Stephens response of a faulty chargecooler causing lack of HP. My ? is - If we can get the chargecooler to get even colder, we naturally would gain HP. Are there ways to get the cooler to become more efficient?? ie. larger, more fins, etc...
Thanks

THe problem is with the electric pump that feeds the charge cooler, not the cooler itself.
From memory Vaeth has an upgraded chargecooler available designed for middle east markets, which may do the job, however the postioning of the unit, whilst great from a packaging perspective, sucks big time. Sitting in the middle of the engine V under the charger subjects it to extreme heat soak.

Yes, cooler intake charge equals more hp! Many drag racers pack their intercooer with ice to get it as cold as possible. You get 1% more hp for every 10 degree temperature reduction. Nitrous sprayed on your intercooler will help make more hp......however, sprayed directly in the engine will make even more.

I have seen the nitrous for the intercooler on nitrouseexpress.com, however, I don't know how the ring will fit. Does anyone have nitrous injection on their W211. I am interested in models and install

You can be the guinea pig on this one. If it work out let me know. I've actually been thinking of NO2 for the Ferrari. It's sad really that the family four door whoops the Italian V12 from a performance perspective!

Stephens,
With the modest additonal boast for the Renntech pulley I "think" I can safely use a modest nitrous injection system. However, "thinking" and not knowing is not good enough for me at this point. That's why I am considering Nitrous cooling for the intercooler. I will continue my research.

Don't be a conservative girl, blaze new trails and let us know how direct injection goes! Seriously I don't see it as being an issue, but I think there are substantial gains still available in other areas before I consider taking the nitrous step.
I was thinking, for example of getting an adjustable rate electric pump for the chargecooler and spending some time testing with DAS to find the optimum rate of flow to best cool the charge. Another simple idea is to replace the coolant with a product such as water wetter, which is more effective at cooling than the glycol based coolants generally used. I personally don't like the idea of spray coolers etc as they require constant maintenance (refilling). Being a lazy bugger by nature, I prefer the set and forget approach to performance.

Changing to a different liquid that may have better cooling characteristics sounds promising!! In our mode of cars, I feel no or low maintenance is the way to go also. Can anyone guide me where to investigate "water wetter"? Living in S.Fla. I've already experienced 4-5 MPH differences in "trap speed" based on the temps outside. (114mph @ 85deg. /&/ 118mph @ 50 deg.)
Hence the colder the charge, means huge power gains!!
Thanks on the Water Wetter idea

2002 E55, Brilliant Silver/Charcoal and Grey, All option except Parktronic.
I think that Redline makes a water wetter. It is used in racing and in vintage cars that have marginal cooling systems (Jaguars).
