How come an E55 has run under 10s in the quarter mile?

I just noticed that Eurocharged did a 9.x in an E55 on E85.

What's the deal because it's got alot of stock components and no NOS. It was so hard to do a few years ago and I kind of didn't follow the W211 E55 progress as I've been busy at work and I have a W212 now but it's so crazy. Also the fact that a W213 still hasn't run 9s and an E55 has.

Is it the E85?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not an issue of power but power delivery. The old torque-converter 722.6 is a detriment in most cases but an asset in this one? Aren't the w212 and w213 transmissions torque limited?

sounds like he also had a 75 shot of Nitrous...upgraded valve body for faster and harder shifts, and an addition of a transmission controller.

don't forget slicks.

I was also under the impression the newer transmissions had issues with torque delivery.

from what i know of in regards to drag racing...a torque converter will ALWAYS give you the best possibility of a good launch where as a dual clutch transmission would not. reason being, you can configure the amount of "lock up" or slip of the torque converter as if it was a clutch of a manual transmission. the fastest drag racers with manual transmissions express that they slip their clutches upon launch. that maybe for a split second, but it is still slipping at their command/control.

allowing the torque converter to "slip" upon launch will allow your slicks maximum bite and traction with proper TCU and torque converter tuning.

In the E55: We ran a 9.77 @ 140ish without any nitrous, a few months later I added about a 75 shot and we went 9.64 @ 144ish. E85 is for sure the hot ticket, and helping to keep it safe. SBE, heads, blower and still trooping along at very high mileage. The .9 trans in say an E63s does have some major tq limitation issues... We just recently twisted the output shaft on the shop E63s... It also struggles to get off the line with a lot of tq input. That car is making about 860wtq at the moment.

Looking forward to the fall time and going faster in both cars

Thanks!

Dave

That's so insane!! I mean 9.77 is WAY WAY WAY faster than the BiTurbo cars. That's a huge lead. So this is on the stock blower? Full bolts ons too?

What have you done to the transmission?
