Low on gas, won't restart after refueling.
Hi everyone! Yesterday I had about 2 bars of gas left on the gauge and instead of going straight to the gas station, I parked on the driveway which is on a steep incline. With the rear of the car facing downward. I tried starting the car this morning, and it wouldn't turn over, just keeps cranking. So I got 5 gallons of gas from the station and poured it into the tank. And it still won't start. Is there a trick to getting the fuel back into the throttle body, or another step I dont know about? I've been able to restart other non Mercedes cars in the past. Please advise. Thank you.

If everything is working fine then the car will start. Even if you completely run out of fuel and then refill it, it will only take a few cranks for fuel to get up to pressure in the engine and the air to bleed out of the system. I would check your fuel pressure at the rail.

I also have another thread showing the setup for testing fuel pressure while driving. As above it is a good idea to check at least the external condition of the fuel pump wiring under the rear seat covers.

Thanks guys! Will check the pump tomorrow. I had the fuel leak problem fixed under their 15 year extension 6 months ago. So do you think they also replaced the fuel pump along with the fuel tank and other parts?

I think the car broke down and your fuel level ie not relevant..
Your crank position sensor is the lead suspect if it hasnt been replaced.
Could still be fuel related but super doubtful with the new pump. (Yes they replace the entire tank including pumps afaik)
Crank position sensor just buy it and google the diy it's a bit awkward to get at but if your patient and work it patiently in the space it's easy. It will probably fail on you eventually anyway and leave you stranded. Well in my opinion anyway .

I remember when my fuel pump died I tested spark and was getting it because I used a screwdriver to check the arc and despite rubber handle I still got a wee shock lol. So there was spark with dead pump and I know bad cps causes the ecu to not supply the plugs with the electricity if you want to try some more diagnosis!

the tanks come with a new pump and sender already installed. a dealer forgot to install the adapter harness for the passenger (pump) side on mine. one pump runs backward and you get low fuel pressure, never would’ve noticed
anyways to test the CPS pull a spark plug wire off the engine and connect it to a spare spark plug. if you see it arcing it’s good if not then it’s your culprit

When turning the key from off position/open drivers door, do you hear the fuelpump run? If you hear the pump it might be your crankshaft postion sensor as someone mentioned before.

Thanks everyone! There is no sound coming from the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel pump relay and fuses are good and it still won't turn over. I'm towing it to my local mechanic tonight and see what they say when they check it out. The fuel tank and components were all replaced last November.

Oh wow! That's what I think happened. Too much of a coincidence. Thanks.

Fuel isn't exactly clean, that's the reason why we have fuel filters. Anyway, could there be a possibility that you sucked up some form a debris. If your were to clean out your fuel tank right now, you'll find debris sitting on the bottom.
This is the reason why, I never let my tank run low, part of it is due to my military service. But it's just common sense. But if your gauges are bad, then I apologize for my comment.

They are replacing the faulty fuel pump. Glad they replaced the fuel tank and components 10 months ago. Looks like because it was low on fuel and sitting on a steep incline, there wasn't enough fuel going through the pump. I've heard others say it's happened to them before. Lesson learned. When I'm down to a quarter tank, I'll fill it up from now on.

Well Mercedes will not cover the failed fuel pump after all. They checked everything to see if there was blockage or a problem with the install. It is less than a year old and to me it sounds like its a defective unit. Wtf! I have a call into MBUSA and it is under review. The dealership wants $3000 to replace it. UGH! Hope they can at least give me a discount or something. This is very frustrating to say the least.

$3.000.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ???????????????? WTF !! That's an easy $250.00 repair to do your self with even aftermarket pumps. Shop around and check with an independent shop for a labor cost.
