I cannot find a clear answer to this question. I have an E63 steering wheel that I am installing in my 2006 E55. It does not come with an airbag, so I need to purchase one. There are various part numbers, car models that appear that would physically fit. My concern is the control buttons. I have read that there was a CANBUS change in 2005. Does this affect which airbags will work for my application? Does it just need to be a post 2005 airbag or are there certain versions that are required to make this work?

You need a facelift airbag. The electronics will work plug and play with a MY2005 W211.

Could you be a little more specific? Any airbag that fits made after 2005 or post 2007? Does it matter if it is from an E Class or SL/CL? I am trying not to purchase an incorrect version.Originally Posted by UncleBenz55

Would a 2008 E350 airbag work?

All airbags with the facelift shape will work. 211,219 and 230.
There is a possibility that, I might still have my old air bag at the shop from my E63. I replaced my old steering wheel a few years ago, for an Alcantara covered flat top and bottom steering wheel.
And I believe that the shop still has it sitting on their shelf, collecting dust. I will visit the shop in the morning, if they have it, I will sell it to you for a decent price. Fingers crossed.

Yuille, I am pretty sure you sold your airbag with your stock wheel. I remember contacting you about it and you said the airbag was included. If you still have it, I would be interested. I'd rather buy from a member here than on eBay or Facebook Marketplace. Originally Posted by Yuille36

Honestly, I’m trying pretty hard to remember if I sold that wheel. I don’t think I did, but tomorrow will tell. I’m hoping that I still have it. 🤔Originally Posted by MJBelcher500

I found a post where you said you sold it back on 9/30/2021. This was the buyer.Originally Posted by Yuille36

Guy who purchased the wheel here, it's an amazing condition, the alcantara is well done on the paddle shifter. Thanks again to the seller for providing an amazing deal. Now I just need to figure out if and how to mod my 2004 e500 to accept the paddle shifters. I've seen some other forum posts that have done it, so there is a way.
