OEM Tires

For those who have taken delivery recently: What kind of tires did you get?
If Continental, are they as bad as many on this forum have said?
Since MB is using a decent grade of Pirelli's on the C55 an other AMG models, what possessed them to put inferior tires on such a superior car?

Only the execs at Mercedes know why they chose to put such crappy and cheap tires on such a fine automobile as the E55. Get rid of those Continentals and get some Michelin PS2's.

When your car comes in, ask the dealer to switch out the Contis for the PS2s.

better advice never given. i was thinking about adding this comment to the "negotiating the price" thread. had i known, the best value add i could have achieved in negotiations was to get those damn contis swapped out. as it is im stuck with them.

Yea the contis are bad. I didnt bother trying to ask for a swap out, bc I once tried this at a local lexus dealer and they were giving me close to nothing back for the tires the car came with. We all know they would turn around and sell them as new to someone else, though.

PS2 are going on my beast once march rolls around.

Tiberius, dont think i've seen you around yet, although I did see a black beast in mahwah the other day. Is that anyone on the board?

Excellent in the rain. Obviously not intended for the snow, but I guess you don't have to worry much about that. Cold is a different story, and according to Luke at the tirerack most summer, high perf. tires can lose up to 50% of their effectiviness when temps. dip below 50 F.

response to oem tires

Does it really matter, since most owners will burn off the first set by 9000 miles any way? Then, go get a good set of PS2's.

It certainly matters to me. Most people with high performance cars can tell the difference in tires. Since handling is not this cars strong suit, I would think the choice of tires could make at least a small noticeable difference.
And although we don't exactly have the Dealers over a barrel, the best time to ask for a tire change would have to be before taking delivery.

Havent seen you either ThemisN. In fact, I've only seen one E55 on the road outside of Manhattan. Would guess its only a matter of time before our paths cross - esp on the weekends when I'll take any errand from my wife as an excuse to get out and drive!
