W212 E63
Winter Tires

ok I'm going to revive this topic and hope to get some responses. For those of us not lucky enough to have warm weather and smooth roads year round and have to live through a bit of snow, let me know what you're doing about winter tires. If anyone has any good recommendations on shops in and around the NJ/NYC area, that would be real helpful. Really don't want to buy tires and wheels from the dealer so I need to find a shop I can trust will do a good job.

Thanks, guys!

Ya i hear blizzaks are the best b/c their compound is the softest. Are you putting them on your stock rims or you buying new wheels? If you buy them from TR where would you plan to have them installed?

E-Ridium:

I am going with the Blizzak LM-60's as well. I had a very good experience with Blizzak's on my E55 - they handled the snow remarkably well and they were acceptible in the dry.

I am going with a second set of wheels for the snows. I believe there is some risk of tire damage by having the tires swapped out on the same wheels - although the tire shops will say otherwise. I have ordered a set of brushed titanium 18 inch Forgestar F14s with the same offsets as the stock rims. The price is quite reasonable and the look is pretty good.

Tirerack does not have any rims showing for the W212 E63 yet because they have not had that car in their South Bend shop for test fitting.

Derrick - Why wouldn't you go with 255-40R18s all the way around? That is the recommended winter tire size for the 18s and is a perfect match on diameter for the rears?

I dunno if the rears will fit 255 since the stock tire width is 285...
It would be nice if it'd fit.

We might get away with this setup tho:
245/40/18
265/35/18 (tire rack doesnt have 255/35/18 for LM-60)

Derrick:

That is what the Owner's manual lists as the recommended tire size (255-40R18 for the 18s and 255-35R19 for the 19s all the way around) for winter tires on the stock size rims so that tire should definitely fit the stock rims. Since the Blizzak LM-60s come in that size, I really think that would be the best way to go. There is no reason to have a wider snow tire on the rears than you have to to maximize traction in the winter.

Thanks, I just ordered a set of 4 255/40/18 for my E63.
