Did Service A, oil level is above both red plastic marks
So I was surprised when I just got it back from an oil change and the oil levels were well above both marks. So far above, it was even above both plastic red markers onto the metal rod again.
I forgot to ask about it last week, now a week later it's just at the top of the top red plastic marker (meaning just above it). So it's come down maybe a few mm from where it was last week.
But I know when the engine is running, that level goes way down because the oil is up circulating through the engine. And I think it's only dangerous when oil levels are extremely high above the mark. Right now I'm probably almost a 1cm over the max mark.
Input and thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
I've heard that too much oil is a bad thing too but not sure what the tolerance is. I would go back to the dealer and have them check if it is really bothering you. Good luck
. Good luck at the dealer. The only calming anecdotal thought i have is that dealers I've been to usually pump out the oil from a spigot that is like a gas pump where they enter the appropriate amount and the machine does all the thinking. Hopefully it was like that at your dealer and not some shmoe filling it blind. Good luck and let us know what you find out.Cheers
On my paperwork it says 7 L. Maybe they put more, just didn't measure it.
When you say top of the red, you're referring to the second higher up red mark, correct?
If I remember correctly, technically the right oil level is in between the 2 red plastic pieces, no?
@ e ridium, FREE!! I prepaid! :-) I called my wife on the spot when i was offered the option, and she told me how much the services cost. Man... it's a much better deal to buy up front! :-)

I asked dealer and he said not to worry about it. Not sure if that's comforting or not. :-)
Clubrcr, geez... that's a lot! But come to think of it , that's about right. When my oil is at the bottom of the red mark, each 0.5 quarter brings it up half way. So an extra quart would bring it down exactly from the top of the top red mark to the bottom of the top red mark.
Did that make any sense? Geez... we have have to come up with better nomenclature for this! :-)
So the dealer does the service and my Indy does the oil (plus he's cheaper, I know he's using the correct oil, and he will always drain a small sample in a bottle for me to do a UOA.)

After further review he found out the that tech at the dealer used the same washer on the oil pan bolt instead of a new one- this caused the leak. Within 30 minutes he had cleaned the under carriage, drained the pan, put a new bolt and washer in and filled up 8 quarts of Mobil One 05-40 ESP. He charge me for his cost on the oil and no labor. Thank god for good peeps.
If any of you want an oil change for cheap and correct; check out Hyevon Motors in Huntington Beach, CA and ask for John or Serge.
Holy $h!t, i'm sur eyou were sweating bricks for a little bit. What a dumb @$$ tech at the MB dealer. man.. such a stupid little mistake causes so much extra work!
so i guess we do have a little too much oil, but so far hasn't caused any prooblems.
Glad you got 8 quarts this times. 9.3 seemed a little much.

Even at the top of the red you should be ok... and if you drive the car hard you will burn it off easily.
Also, not replacing the filter should not affect fill quantity given filter position topside. If someone knows differently, please advise.
Finally, the sealing washer for the oil cooler drain is different from the oil pan drain. Both should be replaced each change.
Instructions attached.
