Quaife LSD model number for W212 E63 AMG

Hi all,

I am trying to install a Quaife LSD on my w212 E63 and called a local Quaife dealer here in Korea to find out info on pricing and installation, etc. I am confused because after doing some search here on mbworld, it seems like w212 E63 uses the same Quaife LSD that is used on C63. What the local dealer told me was that W212 E63 requires a bigger LSD that was used on E55 previously and not the ones for C63. Now, I am puzzled I am not sure what is the correct model number, QDF9V or QDF7V. Please help!!

Where are you located? How much does it cost you for the LSD and installation?

I actually wrote and asked quaifeLSD.com and received the response below.

Hi Steve
Thanks for your e-mail.

The E63 requires Quaife part number QDF9V-1.
If you've made horsepower improvements, Quaife has released a new heavy-duty version of this differential called the QDF9V-2.

Due to the overall larger size of the QDF9V-2, a modification to the OEM differential carrier is required for installation.

The QDF9V-1 is a drop-in OEM fit.

Please advise if you have any additional questions, or if there's anything further I can do.

Best regards,
Scott Cole

I wonder what are the power/torque limits for those units.

LSD doesn't come as standard. '12 comes with LSD as a separate option apart from the P30 package. Previously the LSD can only be had as part of the P30 package.

Renntech LSD for W212

Renntech LSD is OS Giken...

Here is a clarification on the Quaife ATB:
Subject: RE: Correct LSD differential for 2012 Mercedes E63 AMG

Hello Michael,

Thank you very much for your enquiry; there are two versions of the QDF9V differential, the QDF9V1 and the QDF9V2. The QDF9V1 is applicable to both Mercedes and Chrysler, the QDF9V2 is Chrysler applicable only.

Kevin Bird Garages are our exclusive distributor of the BMW and Mercedes applicable differentials, they are both a BMW and Mercedes specialists. One of the main reasons for this is that the Mercedes differentials are different throughout their vehicle range and determining exactly which ATB is the correct one for your application can be difficult at best. They will be able to tell you (from your VIN number) exactly which ATB is applicable to your vehicle (it may well be the QDF9V1) but we simply do not know unfortunately.

If I can be of any assistance in the future please don't hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Adrian Naish

Good to see fellow Korean in this forum! I'm located in Korea as well and considering LSD, too. I'm sick of smoking rear tires everytime when I step on the throttle.
Good luck on your search and let me know how it feels after the install.

I purchased mine from Bird's and when I asked he suggested it should be a $500-$600 install. It cost me about $1,000 but I had it done by my indy who does a lot of work on high performance vehicles but found this job a time consuming piece of work. The install from Bird's is replacing the guts of the diff, which is more difficult than replacing the entire unit.

I am also looking at the 9V1 very soon. I was told around 1 to 2 hours to install with new gaskets and fluids. That would be around $3-500.

It's that long of a job? 14 to 15 hours?

My local shop gets $100 and hour.

The V1 is a direct drop in correct?
