Previous CTS-V (V2) owners who moved on to E63
I noticed that some of you 63 biturbo guys previously owned or currently own a 2009-2013 CTS-V and now own a W212 biturbo.
1.*In your best analysis what are the major driving differences between the two?*
2. Was the E63 significantly faster than your V when it was stock? How much faster is your car now with the tune compared to your V?*
3. What will I need to do to my V to so that it can run with a stock E63 and F10 M5 (besides buying a M157 motor lol)?*
4. What kind of mods can I do to make it run with a tuned E63?
I ask all these questions because I was targeting a CLS63, but I found it difficult to justify right now while saving to purchase a new home and starting a new business.*As a result I bought a used V2. The car feels a little faster than my E55 when it was stock and a little slower than my E55 when it was 180mm pulley only. It also feels slower than when my car when was stage 3 (obviously) before I sold it. I bought the V because of the handling and mod potential, but before I start my mods I figure I get the perspective of you guys who have experiences with both.
Thanks,
Larry * *
The v is faster stock and handles significantly better than the e. my v was lowered on d3 sport and I had 20"s. loved driving the v except for the constant squeaks, rattles, crappy bt, navi. The recaro's were nice for short spirited drives but hurt like crazy on drives more than 45 mins
My 63 is tuned now and much faster than the v. I did no engine mods on the v except a bb exhaust which I took off after a month later. A upper and lower pulley and tune and the car is a beast. Add some lt and got a monster
The e63 overall is a more refined car. More solid, quieter and more comfortable. My second e63 w211 and w212 and with every car I own I know there will always some model in my garage. You get the both of best worlds for me. A really fast 4 door Mercedes
I appreciate your honest review of both cars. I hear you with the squeaks and rattles. Every now and then my car makes a rubbing noise or clicking noise when turning left or right from a low speed. Because of that I've taken the car to twice since I bought the car (Sept 2012) to see if I could get it fixed under warranty and they told me it was nothing wrong and it's the way all CTS-Vs operate. I plan to take my car into the dealership one more time soon to demonstrate the small issue. Besides that the car has performed flawlessly and performs great! I know the interior lacks the richness of a Ebenz/5bimmer/XFJag, but the interior is still very nicely appointed and feels sporty and modern.
In terms of performance...your assessment is exactly what I was thinking. The V2 is fast, but would get murdered by a tuned E63, CLS63, etc. I would need to upgrade my pulleys, tune, intake, injector, HE to compete. It's crazy I would need all that just to compete with a car that only needs a tune own 95% of cars on the road lol.
So is this about accurate? I've never driven a Biturbo 63 or F10, so I'm basing my guesstimate based on forums, car reviews, dynos, and drag strip performances.
Strightline performance only (Generally speaking best 2 out 3 with drivers being equal)
Stock
V2=E63 biturbo non PP<F10 M5
V2<E63 biturbo pp=F10 M5
I will not get into modded vs modded because there are to many variables to consider and all of these cars can be modded/tuned close or slightly over 600rwhp (dynojet) for less than $3000.00.
I never drove a standard E63, but I imagine they don't hqandle as good with softer shocks and no LSD, making them unable to compete with a V2.
If you want a killer V2, get the LS9 Supercharger and supporting mods.
Going from the stock TVS 1800 to the LS9 TVS 2300 is a huge power bump.
Also, get a big *** oil cooler upgrade as LS engines have oil temp issues.
I would think you can handle E63's after those upgrades.

The ctsv should be a good run. I'm dyoning my car wed I'm hoping to make atleast 620whp using race gas

I've only raced my buddies F10 M5 twice, first run he was stock I was tuned that was a joke second run he was tuned I had a tune and few other mods, I put 3 lengths on him
Keep me posted if he accepts your offer. I don't know him all that well to know if he'll run you on the street, but I know he would run you at ATCO.
