Planning ahead for winter

MY '16 E63 Wagon will be here in another six weeks or so (yeah!!). I'm trying to plan for winter tires and wheels. My plan is to try to fit winter tires to those wheels and then buy a different set of wheels for warm weather.

My question is: Has anyone had any success finding winter tires that will fit the factory 19" offset wheels that come on the car?

I will be facing the same decision soon. My 16 Sedan was just built () which probably means an August delivery and snows on by mid November. We get 9 ft of snow on average per season where I reside.

Best option I have determined for me will be a square fitment of Bridgestone Blizzak LM-32 in 255/35 R19 all around on the stock rims. I have had good luck and performance in this area on Blizzaks in Winter on numerous AWD vehicles including Audis and Porsche Turbos.

Here's a thread I saved on the subject:

This is a good thread that helped me 2 years ago when I ordered a set of winter wheels/tires. I went with Nokian Hakka 8 in a square setup and am really happy with the results. It all depends on how bad (or good!) your winter's are.

Nothing that isn't already in the thread on this.

I have a 14 wagon and do the same thing, running Winter on my OEM wheels. I've used Pirelli SottoZero II's just fine. I don't have heavy snow here. Mostly lighter snow and slush.

Changed my mind, Nokkia 8 studded are ordered. Price difference is negligable between the major brands and they look to be the best for our ungodly Winters.

So you were able to get those tires to fit the factory offsets?

Either 255/35/19 all around or staggered, (F 255/35/R19,
R 285/30 R19), are recommended winter tire sizes from the owner's manual for the stock wheels.

I believe only the Pirellis can be had in a staggered set up.

Yes, pretty sure it was a simple TireRack acquisition.

Winter tires

When I was waiting for my European delivery, I hunted all over for high end winter tires. I wanted Michelin X-Ice, but none available for 2015 E63 wagon. Tried Tire Rack, but no tires would come up (winter only) when I entered the model info. My dealer found the Nokian Hakks that fit the rims and met specs, and they are fantastic, for Vermont anyway. I have X-Ice on my '11 350. Pirelli summers came on the E63, but I will go to Michelin Super Sport when I need to change.

Lucky you! I wanted the studded Hakka 8 last winter but they were b/o when I ordered. Have to say that the studdless version is amazing and all in all I am very happy with them. I have studded hakka 7 on my Saab and they are great, but noisy, even with the new stud technology.

They arrived, and are stored in our stable. They look pretty aggressive and certainly have rave reviews by owners and independent testers. I suspect they will be the cat's meow for the severe Winter weather we get here.

Car is on a boat and arriving next week in Baltimore

Mine is on the boat right now too! I guess they're stable mates for the trip over! I'm starting to get excited now.

Planning ahead for winter

Pirelli Sottozeros are made in the stock staggered sizes. I don't think any of the other winter tires are in the staggered sizes but instead can come in the square setup.

That is my winter set up. Used the stock wheels for winter. HRE RS101s for the summer set.
