Front License Plate Mount

Just got my first ticket. No front plate.

Big thanks to Ace and Jordan for the great info/solution from this throwback thread:
https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...ook-plate.html

Considering it was from 2014 though, I wanted to ask for more current advice. For those that purchased a vehicle with no front plate mount, what option did you go with? Based on that thread, along with searching online shops, I as well think the tow hook idea is best. Hoping some of you have found other quality tow hook mounts that I could compare/contrast before purchasing. Am also open to other forms of solutions as well!

Much appreciated and hoping you guys can save me from a second ticket soon!

Honestly I think the oem front plate mount looks the best and I had it installed about a year ago and have no regrets

Front License Plate Mount

I originally had a hide the plate under the bumper but it was way too low and it came off like four times in the space of about six months. So I gave in and screwed in the OEM bumper mount

I read a few horror stories about those hideaway license plate mounts where at highway speeds they came off and either destroyed the underbody of the owners car for the car that was approaching the vehicle from behind !!

In my case it kept getting ripped out on driveways there just wasn't enough ground clearance. Even when I would go in sideways and at a crawl. After four them at $200 apiece I said **** it. I gave up on it and just mounted the plate.

I made myself a holder similar to this. https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...ml#post6101377
A local guy that fixes rims welded things together for me.

There is also a flip plate I have seen recently...It folds in so its not seen then flips out i guess when parking or pulled over. Not sure exactly how it works but im sure a lot of hardware.

Things to consider with these alternative plate holders

- does it reduce ground clearance
- do highway speeds affect safety
- does it affect the parking sensors
- does it look better than the oem holder?

I would also add:

- does it effect airflow from the front vents
- does it effect the view from the front parking camera

In my case, I only see some interference with my front parking camera view. I can't see the ground right below the plate. Not a big deal. I needed 3" between the plate and the bumper so that I can fit my hand to hook/un-hook the holder. Nothing else is effected. I have done multiple runs to NYC and at least 1K miles to the beach house at highway speeds and everything is fine. The plate didn't even move.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
What about getting a local print shop to copy and print the license plate on a vinyl type of material?--Just slap it on when you want it, and peel it off whenever you like and repeat. It will solve all the problems mentioned above.

Will be purchasing a tow hook mount that I found online. If quality and functionality are both on par, I will post direct link onto this thread along with installed pictures.

Thanks again for all the input everyone. Cheers!

+1. To each their own, but I prefer the look of the factory mount to any of these jerry-rigged methods. My $0.02.

I think yours looks fine, but I prefer the look of the OEM plate holder. I realize that not everybody shares my view. One concern I have with yours is that it will likely cause damage to the paint at the contact points (i.e. vibration from driving will scratch the clear coat).

I'm not trying to convince anyone nor am I selling anything here. Just trying to answer the original question vs. just providing my $0.02. My front bumper is covered with Xpel and the inside of the holder mounts are covered with felt paper. So, the paint should be safe. And if somehow it is not, I will just cover it with the OEM license plate.

I remember seeing one of those "James Bond" type front plate mounts years ago that concealed the plate via key fob under the bumper area but could be activated to pop up when needed.

Anyone know what company made those and if one could be made for our cars?
