2014 E63 AMG Winter Wheel & Tire packages

I am a new owner of an E63 and wanted to get a set of winter wheels and snow tires for my car. I would rather stick to affordable options from places like tire rack, aftermarket, or similar given that winter here in Wisconsin is a mess and the wheels will get chewed up anyway.

Factory spec on wheels is 19x9" front and 19x9.5" rear. Most of the available wheels are the same spec for the rear but 19x8.5" front. Does this .5 of an inch matter as far as fitment, offset or any other parameter?

Also spec for tires is 255/35 front and 285/30 rear. Any need to change the spec on the front to match the 8.5" width of the aftermarket wheels.

Lastly, is there a better way to go such as downsizing to 18" wheels or is that not a good idea with this car. I would also like to avoid complications with fitment, so thought I would stick to 19" wheels unless there is a known good 18" option.

Any input or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

OK I've been thinking about this too. Yes, I read the 13 pages. In short 18" won't work with AWD and/or AMG"S" cars so pretty much stuck with 19" rims (even some aftermarket 19" don't fit. Seems most are going with 255 square or 255/285 factory staggard setup (per owners manual page 328).

I'm torn between getting the pirelli sottozero vs some all season tires in the staggard setup. I ran my E550 4M on 245 conti DWS last year and didn't have an issue with snow performance. The larger widths scare me a little since they theoretically don't work as well in the snow.

If I went square 255 I'd probably pick Nokian R2, but I'm afraid of leaving my rear rims exposed to damage with that small width tire.

Definitely consider the TSW wheels like the Nurburgring, available in same sizes and offsets as stock. Fair price for a good quality wheel. And nice enough to run during the summers if you later decide to make it your main wheel. I'm very satisfied. Got through Discount Tire.

Correct me if I'm wrong, people:
18" will work with non-AWD which don't have those large metal plates extending out from near the rotors. On the other hand, 18" will still work with the rear of the AWD cars.

Yes, I read through all of those pages too and there is lots of back and forth but I was hoping for a nice simple conclusion. From reading that and doing some other research, I've determined that for me the only answer is to come as close as possible to the stock staggered setup, which means 19x8.5" front and 19x9.5" rear with true snow tires sized 255/35 front and 285/30 rear. Anything else gets into potential issues with fitment and/or weird looks.

While it may not matter for everyone, here in Wisconsin there are enough real snow days that a true snow tire has proven worthwhile. Also I'm a firm believer that the soft compound of the snow tire, trumps all other issues such as size/width when comparing to an all season (no season) tire.

I was just hoping that some people had already been running a setup like I described and could comment on any problems or lack thereof.

Thanks.

Winter Tires

I had winter tires installed on my 2016 E63 wagon 2 weeks ago. I used a square setup as well: 19" rims (non MB black 10 spoke) and Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4's (255/35R19 96V on all four corners). The look great with my Diamond White exterior. There is no snow in the forecast yet but I am ready. There does not appear to be any issues with clearance with this setup.

I got Sottozero Serie IIs with the car, and just put them on a couple weeks ago. Fortunately no snow yet.

Reviews of the Serie II aren't fantastic. The Sottozero 3s are very highly rated, but I don't believe they're made in sizes suitable for us. If I were choosing now, I'd go with the Pilot Alpin PA4s. They seem to be the best available in our sizes. Nokian's are also rated very highly - but again, I don't think they're in the proper sizes for us.

Stopped by the dealership yesterday and ordered a set of the Pirelli Sottozero in 285/30 255/35 staggard setup. Cost is ~$1450 mounted and balanced including tax. It was almost 80 degrees F yesterday so I told them I wasn't going to be in a hurry to put them on when they came in.

And great phones too! LOL!

Last time I checked the Nokian website, they didn't have the Hakka (which is their top performer) in our size.

Nokian has them in 255/35 if you want a square setup, but the Pirelli Sottozero II are the only winter tire available in 285/30 for the rear if you want a staggard setup.

For real tough Winter, like we get in Québec, Nokian Hakka8 are the best for driving on ice or deep show. Only comes as a square set-up. Got them last year and love them.

OK, question
Spoke to a TireRack rep
They don't have TSW wheels but have a whole bunch of wheels.

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/resul...n&autoModClar=

He also was pushing to put the 255/35R19 size all the way around instead of the staggered setup saying that you can rotate tires and also narrower tires are better in snow.

I think it's the same for all W212 AMG's: Front 37; Rear 52

I went with the square approach for my winter tires (255/35R19). The operator's manual provides both square and staggered setups. For winter use, I really did not see any advantage in the staggered setup - certainly is more costly for the wider rear tires. There are certainly lost of choices in rims - I went with a black 10 spoke "replica" which will be perfect to tackle winter salt, etc. and they look great.

Wheel offset is also in the operator's manual - 1.46 in. front and 2.05 in. rear

What wheels did you get if you don't mind?

I really want to get Nokia tires so maybe I'll go with 255/35R19 on all 4 wheels.

This is what I use Nokia Hakka8, transferring winter tires on the stock twin 5 spoke wheels, so the car looks the same summer or winter.

The rims were purchased from a company in Canada called Replika. I had their R157 rims installed (black 10 spoke). Here is a link to the rim...http://www.replika.ca/img/product/R157-Black-B.jpg

As I mentioned they look great and will more than meet the needs for winter use (saving the OEM rims for the other three seasons.

I am sure that there are dealers that can get similar rims in the U.S.
