2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
Yeah it'll be interesting for sure
Will it flop like the zf 9 speeds seem to be in the jeep or Acura?
Also with how protective the mct is on the drivetrain, how much more aggressive can the lower gears get? The two extra speeds will be interesting ... An extra overdrive gear and an extra accelerating gear?
Is this 9 spd going to be mct?

Next e63 will definitely be AWD.
The 9 speed will probably be great, I doubt Mercedes would rush a half baked trans to market. Most of the ZF 9 speed problems were with the software (which I think ZF left mostly up to the car manufactures?)
Next E63 will probably have more complex AWD, and same 4.0TT engine except bigger turbos.

Mercedes has let quite a few half baked products into its product line over the years so saying they wouldn't is not entirely accurate.
However I am guessing going backward to a smaller displacement, the 9 speed should help with whatever torque losses the engine could have especially as area under the curve is concerned.

there most certainly will be "teething" issues with this new Mercedes transmission. Their 7-spd transmission did for sure, this will be no different. Hopefully they learned from the past, and hopefully the MCT will mate nicely with this transmission.
If they are putting a 9-spd transmission in there for fuel economy, I'm not sure people will like the extra shifts and clunkiness of the downshifting, for instance the dog clutch up/downshifts -- particularly in an AMG. Certainly everyone will welcome the improved acceleration, Honda's 0-60mph in the Pilot improved about 0.5 seconds just by adding a 9-spd alone compared to their 6-spd auto.
Most of us will never really feel a difference between the current LSD and an electronic LSD unless you go to the track.
I just hope they fixed the low speed bucking that's inherent in quick stop and go with the MCT ...

I'm curious to know what the 'actual' HP numbers will be for the 4.0, in the E63 AMG S. Motor Trend has estimated mid 600 HP numbers at the crank, during their testing between the E63 and the M5 Comp Pack. If Merc is touting a 600+ number for the 4.0, would that in actuality mean we're inching closer to 700?
The 200 pounds in weight that it's going to lose will be helpful too. If the E63 AMG S is available with a similar body/wheel/tire combo as the C63 AMG S, we may have a real world beater on our hands.

For whatever it's worth, I am currently driving a 2017 E300 loaner from the dealer that has a 9 speed in it. I kinda get why there is a 9-speed in a 4 banger putting out 251Hp. But it is a lot of shifting. And don't get me started on how useless the paddle shifters are on this thing! LOL
