20's vs 19's.

I've been thinking about 20's but haven't made the move as the standard ride comfort isn't amazing coming from a 760li.
So last thing I wanna do is make it worse by adding wheels and drop. Both of which I'm ready to do

I run 245/30/20 Front on 9" wheel and 285/25/20 rear on 10.5" wheel on my E63. I also live near Chicago where the roads aren't that great. The ride is harder on 20s with thinner sidewalls no doubt, but it's really not much worse than the stock set up. I want to go back to 19s and do a fatter tire set up for next summer.

I was considering 20" when ordering new wheels. Like raudiace4 stated, everything I found indicated better performance with 19". The ride was less of a concern for me since most of the roads here are pretty decent. The clincher was when I couldn't find tires with the correct load rating...given the weight of the wagon, that wasn't something I wanted to take a chance on. I went with 19" HREs with a 10" rear.

There is definitely a difference in ride quality from 19's to 20's. For all intents and purposes the E63 is a performance vehicle - it was never meant to float around like a Rolls-Royce. From my experience if a customer is unsure about going to 20's due to ride quality then it makes me 100% sure that 20's aren't for them.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
If anything I'd go from the 19's that are on my car down to 18's. Might not look as good, but would ride even better than stock I'd think, more sidewall and less chance of the rims getting curb rash. Just a thought.

Good grief. Should have read this thread before dropping $4k on a set of 20" gloss black rims going in next week. I will never track this car so saving tenths on performance isn't a concern for me. But I guess I will find out how ride quality changes, sigh.
