Carbon Ceramic Brake Cost/Life???

Found the exact E63 I want but it has Carbon Ceramic Brakes. I do not plan on tracking the car, but I am concerned about how long they will last and the cost of replacement.

Does anyone know the following:
- Price for parts (rotors and pads) ? Are there aftermarket options?
- How long with street use do they last?
- Can the car be converted back to steel / conventional? How much are the components for that? Is there a market for the factory Carbon Brake kit?

I saw someone was quoted as $18k for all four corners service at the dealership. If that is my only option, that makes this car to much of a liability and I will have to pass.

Not that this will help out. However I have been investigating this answer for a while. We have a 2016 S63 AMG 4matic. From what I have read or found out is that you just hang new pads, then at around 100,000 miles you change out the rotors and pads. We only have around 6,000-7,000 miles so far and the vehicle was just in for service A. I forgot to ask the service writer. We are no where in need of brakes yet.

18k sounds like a replacement of the rotors, calipers and pads and labor. The whole kit new is about 10k. If anything you would just have to replace the pads down the road

Thank you very much. My dad told me to build a car for my mom. She has always had an S class. This is my moms last car. So we went all out. I basically checked marked everything, except the refrigerator and the executive seating (due to we have to have a five seater not a four seater). The car had to be special ordered. Took about six months to get it. My parents are in there upper 70's lower 80's. My dads last car is a 2013 Cadillac Escalade ESV platinum.

Front oEM Rotors will cost at least 2000.00 U.S dollars each.

Quick search about 11k from Germany. Looks complete with rotors, calipers and pads.

I saw your other post in a different thread, I feel like I am chasing you around the forum this morning.
I bought my CCB CPO 2012 E63 from Oakland and had them price me the parts for a brake job. I think it was ~11k in just parts (4 rotors and 2 sets of pads).
I track my car every month and the brakes are equal to that of other super cars.

I'd jump on that car, with the warranty and service packages yes the car is a bit higher priced, but the options are nice and you will enjoy the car.

My car has ~60k miles with original rotors and new pads.

If you want to see the full quote for the brakes, let me know and I can dig it up

How often do you change pads?

For composite carbon / ceramic rotors you have to weigh them to measure the remaining useful life on them

You can replace with steel rotors. I would not be afraid.

Do we have a thread or update on the olderish 2014's-15's w212 that have CCB and if they have replaced the rotors?

I was searching and it looks like the cost of MB rotors have gone up in price., I found front and rear rotors for almost 3k each which is mind boggling to me. Especially when you can get a used e63 now in the 40's, but if it has CCB, and 60-70k miles on it, You are going to be the one replacing the rotors... all previous owners didn't incur that expense.

Just seeing any updates from owners that have the CCB option ticked.

I searched on this subject before buying my '14 w/ CCBs and have tried finding info on this subject every time I see someone bumps it. I have yet to find "Steel replacements" for the CC rotors. Someone somewhere had posted a link to steel rotors, but, I remember using the link and finding out said replacement rotors are no longer in production. I think it was "Racing Brake' that was making those rotors. I barely drive my car but I do change wheel/tire set ups from summer to winters every year... just gotta do it with utmost care not to drop a wheel on a rotor and crack it. If it ever came down to having to foot the bill to do complete brake job on this car (should I still wanna keep the car) I'd replace the whole system with the Brembo Gran Turismo (I think that's what's called) BBKs and see about selling those calipers. Maybe someone will make a more affordable replacement in the future... I am at 32K

They are too small. CCB Front rotors are 402mm.

They (steel) should still work, just aren't CCB.

Genuine CCB fronts from ECS is $8k
Genuine CCB rears from ECS is $7250
So $15k+ for rotors alone

Someone can jump on me if I'm wrong but you can throw on steel rotors F&R for ~$1500 for rotors (zimmerman fronts and genuine OE rears) from ECS and just ditch the CCBs. I don't think you'd run into caliper issues either.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... This is not a 911 GT car. It's a 2+ ton super sedan and CCB's are an absolute gimmick and pocket destroyer on this car. Yeah yeah, less brake dust and longer life. Cool. So they last twice as long but cost 10x as much and 99% of people don't track this car or use their brakes to the point CCB's matter. Bottom line, if you haven't bought one yet, avoid CCBs or be ready for a downgrade that you ultimately wont notice.

They don’t have them on their site but I called and talked to them a while back and they have a steel set in the correct diameter for the conversion. Not sure why it’s not posted online...

I hear what you are saying in terms of cost. I am sure Steel rotors would work just fine in the CCB system. I would even go out on a limb and roll the dice on a set that is 395mm... but 360mm? That's about 1.5" smaller. No thanks (for me... everyone else can do whatever they want)
