Last year I had an idiot rear end my wagon in the last place I thought possible, a drive through car wash. Vehicles are supposed to be in neutral.
As how it was on private property Police weren't involved, body shop and my insurance company (Farmers) didn't report the incident so it will not appear on CARFAX.

Update: on a great recommendation from a local forum member I went to a local reputable dent guy and unfortunately he says he can get his tools in the space to get that crease without making a hole in the door jab; he thinks I'll need traditional body work and the higher cost is coming from the fact that it's white pearl... he will get me a formal quote by friday and took a bunch of pictures to share with the owner; he's thinking fully body job

Pearl is very difficult to match without a fair amount of blending. Even then it is sometimes noticeable.
This is why I recommended visiting a few detailing shops before going with a body shop.
Try a few more places in the area like: https://www.chicagoautopros.com/

Talk to that shop first... then decide once you have a few options and several sets of eyes look at it.
From the photos it is difficult for any of us to really advise and of course we are all different.
Our level of tolerance and automotive ocd varies from person to person.

Chicago autopros said the paint is damaged and they wont take my money for a paint correction and detail because it won't be 100%; they recommend body work and respray; their pdr guy can't get the crease out either .. the wheel well liner is attached permanently to the inner fender ... weird I would think it would come off
pretty sweet place I'll likely be going for detailing from now on though!

Bittersweet. I am not thrilled about the news because I was hoping you'd have something positive come out of it but it seems you did despite not being the news you wanted to hear.
Ask them for a shop that they refer to since they would most likely use one that has similar standards and attention to detail as they would.
Then go from there and use the opportunity to touch up anything else that may need attention.

MY17 S63AMG - MBUSA Buyback. MY16 SL63 - Sold MY19 W213 E63s. 2020 W213 E63s Wagon
That sucks and am sorry that it didn’t work out as we all hoped.
My S63 is also Diamond white and if I remember correctly, I was told the DW has something like 9 coats vs the standard 7 coats and is hard to match. At lease it’ll be done right. Good luck man.

If I see any of you guys park far away in your E63, I will find you and I will park next to you. BECAUSE I LOVE YOUR CARS, not because I am an idiot jerk. If anything I am protecting one side of your car from damages.
Peter, that does not look bad at all. If you are ocd about it though, I would get it fixed, for $500, about the same cost as going thru insurance deductible.

On one my M3 projects I purchased OEM CSL parts and had them painted. The shop I use prepared nine different swatches then we narrowed down to three then we chose which was the best.
If you are really OCD about color match then request for a few swatches for them to spray and you can see what matches the best.
View from various angles outside in the sun against the vehicle for the best possible choice.

A cash job is easily three times more than that... I don't know where you are located but you can't even get a bumper painted for five hundred around here let alone a proper paint & blend on a multi-stage paint.

They'll charge you for the material, time and cleaning of the gun for the swatches but worth every penny if you're going to stare at the car and regret the paint you didn't choose.

I just looked at the damages again and it looks tough. The wheel well arch is hard to do. Would probably do a cash deal as well and call it a day.

What good is it posting "insider" pricing? Most people on here do not have a connection that will do work for free or a discounted rate especially the OP who made it clear from jump street.
Either way I agree on the cash deal. It'll hurt up front but it wont sting on the back-end when the CF report is ran and dings your resale value.

It was comparing out of pocket vs insurance, situational as I would be out $500 either way. If OP can find someone like that, its worth it. If not out cash up front is fine too.

Your out of pocket is not his out of pocket. That was the point I was making. Most people would be in the $1500 area for that kind of work from a quality shop that knows what they are doing.
At the same time I would get other areas of the vehicle touched up if need be or do a front plate delete etc. Get it all done in one shot to get the most value and turn the frown upside down.

Duly noted.
Peter, if you can find someone to do that work under $1000, that would be reasonable. My guy knows what he is doing and his work quality is great, regardless of price. I showed him your damages, his estimate is $600, why charge more? I was really surprised by his price at first too cause the paint was metallic, but hey its been holding on for 6+ years on my first repair. Shop around, I am not familiar with your area rates, but don't bend over backward cause everyone is paying higher.

I busted out my detailing gear:
so I got all my old detailing gear out including various buffers and polishing pads and went to town on this thing. This is the best I'll Get it without formal bodywork ... the linear crease is very hard to see now

I'm sure a pro could cut deeper and get some more of that out but it really makes me wonder if I should hold on any bodywork and just clear those areas of marred paint to protect against rust, I applied a thick paste synthetic sealant to it for now
