Serpentine belt premature failure- causes?

My 2016 AMG E63s serpentine belt started to fray at less than 12,000 miles. Repairs covered under factory warranty but wondering if any other owners have experienced a similar problem?

My first clue of the problem was when my a/c stopped working. On the drive to the dealer the next day I have to drive with my windows down and I hear this noise from the engine. Luckily dealer was just a mile away so when I get there, we pop the hood and see the belt has come apart, but not completely broken. They checked bearings, pulleys and belt tensioners and all within spec. The belt ended up damaging an a/c line so it also had to be replaced.

I had this happen on my 2000 E55. But it was obvious. The water pump pulley seized.

"My first clue of the problem was when my a/c stopped working." This highly suggests to me that perhaps your AC compressor pulley and/or its clutch pack are acting up. If that were to seize you will fry your belt within seconds. That's all I got! Good luck

Def not a regular failure, belt issues on the newer engines are almost non-existent. Some of the 4 cyl cars have launched belts, usually with no other signs or damage, but there is a bulletin about re-positioning the alternator and re-assembling, and it seems to correct the issue in the cars it affects. Never seen a belt issue on a 276/278 or the AMG variants.

I remember when I bought the car new at the original dealership I popped the hood and saw this black stringy material caught on the cloth like duct for the air intake.

12,000 miles later the belt fails. I pop the hood at my local MB dealership (different from where I purchased originally) and the same black/grey stringy material was present. The service advisor said yeah, that's your belt that has come apart. So I believe this issue was present within the first 500 miles on the motor since 500 miles was the mileage when I purchased new.
