E63 ———> RS7 early impressions
I strongly considered a 2016 RS7 before going with a 2017 C63s coupe, but ultimately didn't want to be in basically the same car as an W212.5 E63. Be careful launching that beast with Stage 2, they are prone to popping axles like twigs, but aside from that the Audi 4.0TT and ZF8 are bulletproof.

I popped an axle back in the W211 days so I’m looking forward to that kind of launch power again. At least axle changes are pretty simple repairs if it does happen...
Totally agree with you, except about the E39 M5 being the best saloon. That’s too narrow of a category as I think it’s one of the best cars ever made!
I’m not sure what the RS7 traps on pump fuel. Unlike the E63, when switching maps is this easy nobody races on their pump fuel map. With tune, DPs and race fuel it should be in the low to mid 130s.
If it's poor design, poor design of what else? The suspension has plenty of compliance and lots of travel. It's squishy and absorbs the bigger hits just fine, I don't think it's running out of travel or whatever. I really think they were hemmed in by the tire choices forced on them by the brakes and unibody space limitations and had to compromise around them. And I think modern summer tires are a hell of a lot better than they used to be and might make enough difference to matter.

First I’ll preface that DA was horrible as always, averaging 3000ft during my runs. My best runs in the E63 were at 1500ft DA and those were 11.19s @ 126mph. When I had the E63 there were no personal tuning options to allow me to run race gas so the RS7 does have that advantage. But that’s not Audi’s fault and one of the many reasons I jumped ship. Trying to learn a proper launch technique is certainly easier in the RS7. It doesn’t find limp mode anywhere near as quickly as the E63 did when brake boosting. But I am still learning. I was also on significantly lighter wheels in the E63. The RS7 is on stockers with worn 21” Continentals. Anyways she rattled off consistent 10.4s @ 132mph. And Dragy was within less than a tenth in time and just over a tenth of a mph. I’m thoroughly impressed by it! 60ft times were all low 1.6s. Pretty good for my first time but definitely room for improvement. The E63 also has meth/water injection which I plan to do with this car as well in the near future. So I think there’s easy an 10.3 in her, maybe a tiny bit more with minimal effort and cooperating weather.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Either way, holy hell, thats unreal.
Gosh I think back to the 90's or even the 00''s when to have a car that trapped even close to 130mph, it would involve $$$$$ and end up in a car that's only good for drag with a big laggy turbo

i remember when 14s were a top notch street car and if somehow you built a car that got into the 12s you were an elite and untouchable! I say built because you literally had to build a motor, trans, and 3.73 or lower rear end! And you’re right, it costs money! Not like these cars don’t but to slap a tune on and run mid 10s in a 4500lb sedan is crazy.

Question: your 60-100mph time with pump fuel vs race fuel...what's the difference? Is it just over 3 seconds on pump fuel and around 3 seconds flat on race fuel?
I am sure this is just the beginning and there is more in the car after you really play around with it.
And damn you for further confusing my choices!
I like handling though...... And the RS7 reminds me of the 2014 to 2016 E63s in the pushy portly feel only is much smoother on the straights.
Maybe my only choice should be the new AMG GT63s lol though that will still not touch your car at the track. Wonder what the new RS7 has in store.......
But seriously this is hauling! Do you think you will push for 9s?

but if I can get a 10.2 with minimal to no other mods besides lighter wheels and decent tires...I might actually try for 9s.The GT63s are absolutely beautiful but so over priced for a CLS platform. I definitely don’t see how a facelift could have put it into full blown Porsche Panamera category! Rumors are there will be two RS7s, one with 650hp and a hybrid borrowing from Porsche with over 700. If you’re into handling and straight line performance the logical choice is the F90 M5 (or hopefully M6 Gran Coupe). It does everything better than the W213, comfort, handling, and tuned performance. You can get over the bland styling with minimal aftermarket body upgrades but you’ll just have to be ok with the lack of decent sound from those BMW engines.
