14 E63S Pre-Purchase Opinions

Looking into a 2014 E63S at a reputable mb dealer . It has around mid 80k miles on it . Price is right , these are very attractive in the mid to upper 30k price range. Has an extensive service history with mb . transmission etc has been kept up with . Realistically I see myself crossing the 100k marker quick , not so much concerned about the normal wear and tear items . I've done the research already, and aware of the more common issues these have. Teetering if it's better to just find one with 50-60 on the clock instead.

How many have up over 100k on the m157's ? I guess my worries would be a turbo going out (est. cost ? ) or a timing chain / cam-valvetrain wear issue. Excessive oil consumption seems to be rare as well but.. unable to verify pre purchse . Doesn't seem to be too common , but it would be awesome to hear some feedback if any of you guys are up there in the miles club.

I’m at 113k miles on my tuned m157 no oil consumption but I change the oil every 5k miles. Turbos don’t smoke and car pulls really hard. If you go on cargurus there’s tons of 2011 s63’s with over 150k Miles. As long as you have a 2013+ car with the updated timing chain you will be fine. A little timing chain rattle for a few seconds on start up is common. One of my fuel high pressure fuel pumps failed at 100k miles and I replaced both was about $2k at the dealer and recently changed all cam position sensors one was leaking slightly. Just keep up with regular maintenance I don’t see why these cars wouldn’t make it past 200k miles. My only main issue with this era of Mercedes is interior rattles my 2004 e55 is dead silent on the interior.

Thanks for the info .Was going to ask that , so the 14 E63s all had the revised chain ? Sounds like your purring along 113k - good to hear. Do you have an ext. warr or feel its necessary ?

I'll likely be going to look at a 2014 63S out of state . So going to try to consolidate as much of an inspt. as possible in one shot . The production date was 11/2013 . Is there a reference pic of what the older version timing chain looks like ? or is this something to worry that much about . Just trying to cover A through Z when I do go .
