Getting multiple cylinder misfires.

I've been getting check engine lights every once in a while when I'm driving a bit hard, I could just turn the car off then back on and it would be gone. Then yesterday I got one and it wouldn't go away without disconnecting the battery and it was multiple misfires on cylinders 5,6&8. Is there something that could be causing that? I have a eurotune on the car and that's it. Thank you very much in advance.

How about some details to your story?

are you tuned?

how many miles?

did you have the car new or used?

what type of gas?

simple answer is fill with higher octane fuel

Can you fill with some 91 and 100+ octane?

Could be ... after fuel is ruled out: plugs and coils but this is very similar to an issue me and others have had with bad gas and tunes on the m157 platform

have the plugs or coils ever been replaced? Tighter gap on new plugs could help but I have anecdotal evidence that it doesn't matter

what tune from EC are you running? How aggressive the tune is matters.....

I bought the car at about 45k and haven't changed them. I have the stage 2 tune.I definitely do that but do you think that would cause multiple cylinders to start misfiring at the same time?

There is your problem. They need to be changed every 10k miles when tuned, and you have no idea how old they were when you bought it? Lucky a misfire is your only issue right now.

1,5,8 were my misfires on old plugs

then same cylinder misfires on fresh plugs with 0.022 gap and bad shell gas ... 93 octane

added a bit of 100 octane and misfires went away

credit goes to Jvakos and Vrodman for this discovery

Before you do that and spend $800-1200 get a tank of good gas, at least THEN you know the issue. You still need to replace plugs on a tune every 10,000 miles

you want OEM Benz plugs with stock gap OR 0.022

10k miles for plugs is a little excessive. 20k in my experience unless upgraded turbos or internal engine mods with a aggressive tune is usually fine.

I have a similar issue. 50k miles. 2016 E63S. Car is bone stock(to my knowledge) Misfire on 3,5,8. Plugs were replaced as part of CPO program in December 2019 and then again after misfires in March 2020. I just took it to dealer again and they said they had to open a case with corporate to help diagnose issue. I run 91 octane and I only experience issues after very spirited driving. Normal driving is in excess of 90Mph. I have dealer service car after any issue whatsoever. But this time they have had my car for a while. I am now waiting to hear what corporate techs say I should do. Is there some octane boost I should use? I get my gas free at work and I wish to continue to use this benefit.

I'm having misfire issues with my AMS tune also. I've stopped using Shell gas, change out all the coils and upgrade to NPK plugs and still having issues. I'm going to call AMS next week and see what options they give me to correct this issue.

I have an AMS Alpha tune on a mostly stock car and had cylinder misfires and limp mode when pushing the car very hard. I just installed new OEM plugs gapped at .022 and so far it hasn’t happened again. The original plugs looked pretty bad at 34k miles and the gaps were around .028. Will be following this thread closely. I still need to install the AMS aux heat exchanger I bought with the tune.
