Metallized Windshield
Greetings: Recently purchased a 2014 E63 S-model, great car! I live in Georgia, and want to use the toll lanes on our expressways, so got a PeachPass transponder that sticks to the inside of the windshield. In the installation instructions, they say that the device will not work if the windshield is "metallized". I found out what that means, but have no idea whether the E63 has one. I do know it has the original windshield. Anyone know if the windshield on these cars is "metallized"?

We do not have those - it's usually part of "sunny climate" packages and you can tell easily since the windshield will have a metallic reflection when you look at it from an angle (45 degrees or more).

Usually there is a part of the windshield by the mirror that is not coated so that things like that will function without interference.

My old Audi A8 4.2 V8 had one....looked like an Iridium motorcycle visor with a slight blue/gold tint when looked at from the right angle. Used to keep the car cooler though......but my old school dash mounted Garmin Sat Nav could not get a signal through it....so I had to fit an external aerial at the base of the screen for it to work!

If it doesn't work well through the windshield, you could try my "incognito" hack.
I have my tollway transponder mounted to the underside of the glass pano roof panel. Totally invisible from outside the car. Pano roof shade works fine, as mine is a low-profile transponder. Transponder works perfectly, across the country.
The best part is that I don't have to see the ugly thing every time I look near my rearview mirror!

Thanks all. @SteveE400 that is an interesting idea! I haven't applied the sticker to the window yet, might just do that.
When I was researching which cars had this type of windshield, many of the tolling outfits had lists of cars where a bumper mount might be needed. Interestingly, they generally stopped at ~ 2003 model year. Don't know if they stopped maintaining the lists, or if the metallized windshield has come and gone.
