2014 E63S AMG
Question YOUCANIC UCAN-II-B

Hello all,

I am considering on purchasing the YOUCANIC UCAN-II-B PRO Full System Scanner (see link below) for my 2014 E63S AMG:

https://shop.youcanic.com/products/u...43664225992853

I can't find many reviews on it, and I know they are a fairly recent addition to the OBD scanner world. I am willing to give a new company a chance but don't want to end up throwing money away.

From looking over what the scanner can do on their website, it seems like an amazing tool (probably the closest thing to Mercedes STAR) but for way less.

I would like to hear back from members that actually have this YOUCANIC UCAN-II-B and get your opinions and thoughts.

Thanks kindly in advance all!

For that price just buy a autel maxicom from Amazon. Plenty of them in the 400-500 range and are even better than That chinease crap

I did a lot of research on the scanner and company before buying mine. So far I have to say that I have been impressed with the capability and coverage. It's better than the MaxiCOM which I actually have had before which had poor bidirectional support for MB. Also the other poster has no idea what he is talking about. If you research it Autel is actually a Chinese company wile YOUCANIC is a Maryland company. This may not be the most helpful reply but do some research this has been discussed before.

I am thinking of buying my own scanner for car maintenance at home. Currently my six month old GLC coupe is complaining of a service a. I tried to reset it with the assist plus on the dash, and I go through all the steps, it says it could not complete service reset. Would this tool reset that annoying nag? I don’t want to take it to the dealership.

I've considered getting a tool like that for years but they never tell you what you're getting for your $. If I buy that one for $150, or one for $500, or $1000, what exactly do I get for my $?
So while I'd be tempted to get this just to see what it can do, like changing my stupid turn signal from 3 blinks to one, I'd like to see what the other models offer first. I don't suppose anyone knows?

Well, I have owned (and still own) iCarsoft MB II, iCarsoft MB V3.0, BlueDriver, Autel MaxiDAS DS708, Autel MaxiDAS DS808, Foxwell NT510 (returned), XENTRY, LAUNCH Creader Elite BENZ, and LAUNCH Creader Elite 2.0 BENZ. The prices range from $100 to almost $1000. By far, the most bang for the buck for most people is the LAUNCH Creader Elite 2.0 BENZ.
  1. The problem with newer Autel scanners is the initial cost over $600 and the annual subscription which is rather expensive for a DIYer (about half the price of a new scanner).
  2. BlueDriver is nice and portable, but you can only scan and clear codes.
  3. XENTRY is clearly the best to have, but requires multiple components and is large in comparison.
  4. iCarsoft MB V3.0 is superior to iCarsoft MB II.
  5. If you want a scanner that fits in your glove box that will do 99% of what you want done, get the LAUNCH Creader Elite 2.0 BENZ.

The $1000 XENTRY setup gives you everything that the dealer has and the ability to brick your car. The $600+ Autel scanner may give you slightly more than the $150 scanner, but at a significant (4x and more) price difference. And the "slightly more" may not ever be needed. The right $150 scanner (i.e., LAUNCH Creader Elite 2.0 BENZ) gives you 99% of what you need (or more). And, if you don't like it, return it to Amazon.

FWIW I have been using a Thinkdiag Magic (less than $100) to code my 2019 911. I was a HUGE non-believer, but it can code what other scanners ($500-$1000+ bi-directional scanners) can code. It can do all of the maintenance items as well for the DIY mechanic.

It ended up being the hard work of Cayman/Boxster owners that finally convinced the 911 group. The leg work was translating the German from the PIWIS to English to understand what the 'equivalent items in what menu related to'. The Thinkdiag is all in English and super easy to use.

I expect that the cost to code bi-directional and do most maintenance will continue to drop.

Willl look into the LAUNCH for the E63. Thanks.

Having worked on Audi and VW cars for years using VAGCOM, do not expect the same level of control with Mercedes. XENTRY is the ultimate tool for serious diagnosis and configuration changes, but you can also hose up your car if you don't know what you are doing. For people who want a highly functional tool that will fit in a glove box or cubby, the LAUNCH Creader is virtually unbeatable. iCarsoft used to be my favorite, but you can't even do little things with it, such as the number of blinks for lane changes.

I inquired about Youcanic's scanner and asked if it could re-code tire size, and I was told it did not have that capability for MB.

I have Xentry, but don't know how to do things like make the turn signals only blink once. Assuming Xentry can do that.

I've lost respect for Xentry since the car can check clean but still have issues. Like when the rats chewed my wires, the non-functional module did not show up on a scan. I had no clue wth was happening and eventually tried pinging my 48 modules one at a time to find it. Hours later I did, but why can't it just say; Hey, this module ain't working.
My Keyless Go checks as good, but does not work.
Autel and even my HP Tuners can see codes while Xentry says there are none.
It has some interesting features, but even the dealer cannot find any issues with any car I've taken to them. So it seems to me some other device(s) will be better.

Red; I'll try the one you suggested, thanks

Yup, that has it, just make sure to update the version when you get the device: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...-2-0-benz.html

Roger, update. Thanks I ordered it, be here Tuesday.
Same deal happened as always; I see this other one for a bit more $, hmmm, what do I get for that? Or this other one for $200, or that one for $300!? I had to turn my brain Off, go into autopilot, and order the one Red said to get. Thanks Red
I've been using my Autel to clear codes but it takes like 15min, so hopefully this will be a faster? One signal blink and Eco Off would be worth the cost of the unit, so fingers crossed!

I don't suppose anyone knows about smogging with a change like diff turn blinks, or Eco Off, or anything at all for that matter? I can find virtually nothing on what you can and cannot do to a car and still pass the checksum test in California. I don't care about being legal, I care about failing, which is a hassle and $50 a pop. I figured someone must have done some tweak using this, then smogged it in CA? Anyone?

You want to do a backup as mentioned here: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post8940817

Then if you ever need to restore it you have the backup to restore from to pass all sorts of test. I am not sure if it will restore it fully and don't affect the checksum but maybe. I am not familiar with California law.

Got it! Takes just as long to clear codes as Autel, so no gain there, but turn sig is now one blink and Eco is Off!
Also killed fuel on decel, will check tomorrow if it actually does.
I didn't see an option to turn off the E mode for the tranny, but one of these days I'll get that pesky bugger...

I can see if it upsets the checksum, it's just time consuming and I was hoping someone got a smog check in CA and could say yes/no. My ecu is backed up on my laptop so if all fails I can always re-Ghost it, if that's still a saying.
CA law is super easy: If you're smiling when you're doing it, it's illegal. I'm always finding more things that are illegal, like I recently discovered my pocket knife is illegal, and I probably have 20 various kinds. Per the letter of the law I'm committing enough crimes, as I sit on the couch as write this, to put me away for life. Nothing actually bad, they just make everything illegal. And it's guilty until proven innocent, they need zero proof. Learned that the hard way.

Ya, hopefully you don't ever need to use the backup since I can tell you are enjoying the changes you made to the ECU.

Has anyone tried using the hand held to change AMG menu's, or add functions that are there in the software, but on AMG vehicles? I want to add the SuperSport Screen. If I had purchased the same car in AMG, it would be there.

Doubt it. Those changes require Vediamo, I suspect. Check with @BenzNinja for what you want. He added the AMG menu to my SL400.

I replied but I guess it didn't take?
I've seen some youtube vids where people did the AMG thing. I wasn't interested so I forget the details, but the guy had to pull the inst cluster and do some soldering. I'm sure it varies with model and year, but BenzNinja would be the guy.

My fuel cut didn't take No biggie, just did it to see if it would. Might take a second stab at it since it was mentioned that it might a try or two.
Anyone find anything else cool to do with this tool? I saw a lot of light stuff, so I may try to turn off all my interior lights/trunk etc that I currently have unplugged. And turn off my door sill lights because the observatory 100 miles away is complaining about light pollution. I put making tape over those F'in things on day one because you open the door at night and kiss your night vision goodbye.

Update:
Turning Eco Mode off ruins the checksum/CVN. An issue if you need to smog check in California.
Decel mode to kill fuel didn't work, had no effect on my car, but does ruin the checksum.
The turn signal change to one blink did not hurt the checksum.
The HP Tuners patch does not affect the checksum, which is good news since you can't uninstall it.

The backup function in Launch to restore settings did not work! I tried it twice, it does zero, nadda, nothing. It says it worked, but it did not. So note to all; use Launch to check the oem CVN #, take a picture of that # and save it! If I manually restore the changes I made then the CVN/checksum returns to oem. So for me, that CVN is how I can tell I didn't miss anything. And yes, Calif checks the checksum! Ask me how I know... Apparently they don't check all cars, but of course mine is in the system.

The Eco Mode and Decel are stored in the ECU, meaning I swap out the ECU and the Eco/Decel changes vanish. The turn signal mod remained. I figured this would be the case but had to check because you never know with these cars.

I had a Chinese Star clone and it worked good for two years now it has stopped working. It was great and very powerful but a lot of coding that it could do I didn't know how I to do and was worried about bricking my car.

I recently bought the YOUCANIC Diagnostic Scanner, and so far I have been very happy. It’s already paid for itself. No yearly fees, just a one-time purchase. It cleared a ton of stored codes and identified a bad left front ABS wheel speed sensor, which had turned my dash into a Christmas tree. Now, I’m using it to chase down massage seat issues. It works on all vehicle systems (engine, transmission, ABS, SRS), and is super user-friendly. I’ve used it on my Mercedes and Freightliner Sprinter, and it’s great to know I can use it on my Honda Civic if needed.

The company offers a lot of helpful how-to videos for Mercedes-Benz cars, which is a nice free added bonus. It basically is in par with Star for diagnostics but easier. The only thing that Star has is coidng capabilities but that was always a challenge so I don't think I am missing anything.

Highly recommend it to anyone looking to take control of their car maintenance.
